Ok , one question. The first thing I want to do when I get my Explorer is get a good alarm system, with a lot of features, including Window tampering sensor. I realize I can goto Many stores around here and easily get a $400 alarm system... But I've noticed some online look really good ( Dead Link Removed ) , but can you trust these systems. I've heard a few people tell me not to waste money on alarms like these, but are they worth it, it looks decent :) . If not, could someone direct me online where to go to get decent car alarm for something i can afford and what im looking for :) . thanks

Looks like a good alarm system. Bware that if you buy off of ebay, and decide to have it installed at a shop, that they will charge you 200 bucks for the install. If you have the knowledge, you can instal it yourself. It is a lot of work to do it yourself, especially the door locks (I still have not connected my door locks yet). I purchased my alarm off of ebay, it is a vampire and I am very happy with it. The one you are looking at is a better system than I have.

Overall, If you can install it, use the one off of ebay, otherwise, go to a shop and buy it there. If you cant install it yourself, it will be cheaper to buy the alarm at the shop you have it installed at.

Thanks

Well, I'm from the school of "Buy now or PAY later." but recently I came across a rather wicked system. I saw it in Car Audio Review. They dont usually waste space in ther mag with junk. It's made by Delta. It's called the Delta Pro-2000. Has a lot of features I like, like a 2 way pager standard! That's somthing I would always get on any alarm system. Think about it. When a car alarm goes off, how many of you really look to see if it's your car. If you have a 2 way pager, you know! As far as alarms go my current 2 fav's are:

1.) The Alpine SEC-8063 http://www.alpine1.com/html/De_n_282_n_n.html

2.) The Delta Pro-2000 http://www.car-alarms.com/alarms.htm

I wish the Alpine 8081 interfaced with my IVA-C800 like it does with the older ones. Maybe it does and I just don't know it. Well, there's my 2 cents on alarms.

Most car alarm pagers now are not sold included in a set, but as a part of an add-on to existing systems. In a car audio mag, a reader wrote in and asked why pagers were not used very often or more as a standard feature, and the response by the writer was that car alarm manufacturers were finding out that those people with the pagers would more often confront the would-be thief, and often fights (including guns) would occur. Therefore, some of the alarm companies opted not to sell it as a package, to decrease the likelihood of confrontation, and therefore, injury to any persons. Alarms are meant as a deterrent, though they may seem like watchdogs. If your pager ever does go off, just be careful - the $5,000 car audio bill will be nothing compared to any hospital bill.

Just a friendly reminder, as there was someone on this board that DID get held up one time for his audio system...

a buddy of mine has had three different alpine alarms in his truck. it has been stolen three times and broken into countless others. so about a year ago he went and had the alpine stuff ripped out and had a DEI viper installed with everything, window relays, auto start, he had pins put on the hood and tailgate. he has not had a single break in since it and it has not been stolen. so when it was time for me to put an alarm in my explorer (94 limited) i went and had the same top of the line viper put in ($300 including install). i love the auto strat in the winter time and i have not had a single problem with it.
