I went to a local white glove to get the salt off my truck the other day. Pulled into white glove car wash (never had my x washed there before). After waiting in line for 20min, pulled up and the lady goes "unt uh" told me my tires are too wide. I was like uhh... ok... while this was going on people behind me had a pissed off looking face. Like they had something better to do. She goes on to say- for 20 bucks you can have it hand done. I was like fine I'll take the hand job.

Moral of the story if rails are too tight, expect a hand job.

How wide are your tires? Do Vette's and Z28s have to get hand washed also?

hahahaha.

i have 285 60 r17's, and i took it through a car wash for the first time 2 weeks ago just to get the salt off. had no problems.

i have taken my explorer to other machine car washes (around cherry hill-where i work) with no problems... go fig.

I work at a carwash, and we use a standard coveyer system and it has quite a large width in between the tracks. We have run 37s before with no problem, although it was a tight squeeze. We run H2s daily with no problems. Did you actually try to drive between the tracks or did the lady just tell you that you wouldn't fit beforehand?

They didn’t even try... basically said either it done by hand or no wash (in so many words).

Thing of it though, she charged me for a basic machine wash.
Usually they charge more for a hand wash. I just gave the guy a nice tip.

I am really **** retentive when having my truck washed. I only take it to car washes during the winter (which I hate). Reason why is because hi pressure water causes scratches in the paint. I have done way too much reading on the subject. See below…

Hartman, if you wash cars I would suggest looking into Klasse wax. It’s really not a wax but an acrylic based formula. I use this in the winter months. During the summer/spring/fall I go to a Carnauba wax (pinnacle) which gives a really nice depth. However the Carnauba wax does not last as long as the Klasse formula.

I used Pinnacle below.

Where I work, we don't do detailing, we just run an automatic carwash. A 210-car-an-hour type thing. (yes, it is very popular).

lol msn groups is a pain in my a** oh well...

edit: why i was so determined to get that pic up i have no idea. but found out why the forum would not take it from msn.

msn on the larger photos do not put the extension .jpg at the end. where cardomain does hence why it worked. the forum seems to want .jpg at the end for the pic to show.

I worked at a car wash from October 2001-July '02, and we never had to turn someone away because the tires were too wide. We had a lifted Wrangler that we told the driver it might not fit, but when we tried, it did.

Its really no big deal. I dont plan on going back there anytime soon. This was a first for me, I have been to other car washes with no problems. ahh well go figure...
I really like washing my own truck, cant do it during the winter because of the house pipes.
