Carbon fiber lsd

Good to know I haven't ordered any parts yet so I'll have to just dive into it when I decided to do this.

Torsen is the best l/s you can get but they are the same price as full carrier lockers. I find a l/s in front is easier to drive off road where a front locker has a tendency to yank on the steering wheel against you.

Locker in the rear if you want to go anywhere and don't mind a tire chirping. On a side note snow/ice traction on roads suck with a locker. I'll drive my focus in the snow before my ranger lol.

My focus actually impressed me in the snow lol I went up to visit family in Ohio a few years ago took the wrong road which was a gravel cut through but with 4" of snow on the ground and I made it from end to end and back again in the focus even went up some steeper inclines lol I also put it in the ditch at my house though trying to leave the drive way after a big snow we had like two years ago my ex didn't even really need 4wd in that snow but my buddies stock jk wouldn't move unless it was in 4wd. but trying to ride shoe Creek after 14" was a whole other story after almost going off the side of the mountain we turned back around funny thing is in that same spot someone had built a fire in the middle of the trail with a broken u joint and mud flap laying near by.

Ideally I would want a torsen in the front and a selectable locker in the rear what options are on the selectable table for the 8.8 ? btw ARB's although would be nice is out of my price range .

Totally agree about that sir. ARB WOW to much. Do a SAS and a SOA and dana 44s from an XJ and then you can have Electric lockers. :-)

Yea I was going to save the big money stuff for the final phase (sas) if and when I do that. For now adding some extra traction would be perfect I'm pretty happy with my set up as it is minus the break over angle not being all that great but I'm pretty much to the point of having to go sas because it's pointless to put a 4" suspension lift on it if I'm going to rip it out in the future. Then with sas, lockers, and 35's it would be practically unstoppable!.lol but in its current setup even with an open front and worn LS rear it goes where I want it to go, I've had a winch now for two years and still haven't used it in a self recovery.(although it has served other purposes) Almost hope I get stuck sometimes so I can use it lol

But for now I think within the next year I will end up doing the torsen, maybe a gear change and rebuild the Trac lock plus some extended brake lines, limit straps, and sway bar disconnects. Along with some new springs all the way around I'll be set for awhile.

Plus you have to buy and install the whole compressor set up. I thought there was an eaton e locker available for the 8.8 not sure but I also heard some bad things about that unit anyway.

The Eaton True Trac was on sale last Spring for the 8.8, about $440 I think was the total. It was a $50 rebate that they sent by check after 2-3 weeks. That's not selectable of course, but strong enough for most jobs.

What all is available for the Dana 35 in front I'm ok with the track lock and once I rebuild it I'm sure it'll be good enough along side something up front the torsen is $500 is there something similar available for the front for less $? Other than the torsen, no slip, and maybe other lunch box lockers like Aussie is there something else other than a lunch box or torsen LS ?I'm starting to really dig the torsen diffs especially for the front isn't the true track basically a copy of the torsen? the rear I know can deal with a locker no problem but I don't want an auto in the rear. And selectable is to costly. But with the capabilities of my rig as is I'm sure I'll but very pleased with an over built track lock and a torsen style diff in the front. If I go sas it'll probably be selectable front and rear but I don't see that happening no time in the near future.

I think you are saying you would do best to invest in the front(the Torsen), and try the Ford LS built tight with extra clutches, and see how that works. I'd begin with the rear LS, buy a kit and see how that goes. The regular clutch kit I saw was about $30 less than the CF heavy duty version, say $75 versus $100 or so.

That is my plan as I won't have $500 any time real soon for the torsen.

I've used GT500 clutches in all of my explorers

Is the gt 500 any different than the cobra carbon fiber kit mentioned?

They are the same clutch packs in 03 cobra / gt500. The GT500 did switch to the torsen in like 2009. It's a different torsen vs the one you'd want off road though. It's a t2 I think or the one you'd want is a t2. Either way there are 2 different 8.8 Torsen carriers available.

As stated above they are the same.

Well I might actually hold off for Awhile because after hitting a bunch a trails in the last few weeks i realized I really don't need anything more than what I got for what I'm doing and I could still push it much further than I am now before things like lockers and built trac locks more lift bigger tires etc.. become more necessary. The main thing I could use is a gear change as it is a bit sluggish even though I'm loving the highway mpg once I get up to speed, mainly on the beach in soft sand is where I really wish I had 4.10 or even 4.56 gears. But she still manages so not a huge deal.

The CF clutches allow me to drive in snow with 2wd. I also drive on offroad trails, up hills, it helps. Truck is much more surefooted.

I like it in case the 4wd fails. With an open it is terrible in snow with 2wd.

My ex still pulls both tires in most situations such as snow, dirt, gravel, mud, and sand, it's when it gets really bound up on one side it'll slip but then again it was designed to do that which is why I'll probably just wait until I have to get into the rear end for something else and replace the clutches while im there, I'm actually surprised it still locks up as good as it does for being so old I probably would notice a difference in rebuilding it but as of right now it's not necessary.
