CCR2001 UPDATED!

HOTEL CHANGE!

While pre-running this past weekend, Heath and I decided to check out our lodging options in person. We had initially chosen the Four Points Sheraton, sight unseen. While I'd still consider it acceptable, I believe we came across a far better option (right next door) - the Quality Inn & Suites.

This hotel is less than a year old, features many more amenities (including air conditioning which the Sheraton doesn't have), nicer rooms and a free continental breakfast each morning. I decided to go ahead and switch my reservation (Friday-Sunday nights) and was able to get us a special group rate of $59.95/night (just $4.95/night more than the Sheraton) for a non-smoking, double occupancy room with 2 queen beds.

If you'd also like to change your reservation from the Sheraton to the Quality Inn, I've reserved 9 additional rooms at this special rate. Be sure to mention you're part of the "Serious Explorations" group. These rooms will be held (while they last) by the hotel at this rate until August 15th. Their number is: (970) 513-1222. If you have any problems, let me know...

Down to 8 rooms... I just changed mine... You'd better hurry... We checked out these rooms and they are NICE... Really nice...

All I did was mention that I was with the Serious Explorations group and she knew exactly what I wanted... Even knew the dates I wanted... I spoke with Anna...

Well bummer! I already booked TWICE at the other hotel and some other cabin. The first time I called that 800 number I didn't realize that they had booked me for the wrong place and ended up spending $77 a night for TWO nights for a cabin. Anyways after I called to cancel and get the other hotel, they told me I was going to pay a $75 cancelation fee. So they got the amount of days I was staying wrong and the hotel wrong the first time so I don't think I will change again. :D Less chance of getting screwed again. Ah well the charges are on my American Express so I will dispute those BIG time! :)

hmm... guess I'd better get a room somewhere... anyone want a roomie? :)

I also changed our reservations to the Quality Inn. They have a pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, workout room, busness room, and don't forget the donuts every morning. I also talked to Anna. It was the same cost for 2 adults and 1 child. Perry was hoping for a cute chick masager to masage his back!!! But all they have is the room to use for that! :D

Ryan - that's crazy! I've never heard of a $75 cancellation fee this far in advance! They also should not have charged your card either time, only for authorization. Still, if you find you can't get this resolved, give me the name of the person you talked to and I'll be happy to break my foot off in their a** if I have to!

I think you'll be much happier at the Quality Inn, so don't give up!

I'd have to agree with chris. This far in advance is bogus to charge you a cancellation fee.

Me too... I've heard of a $20-25 cancellation fee... But $75 this far in advance... Bogus... Did they warn you of this before you confirmed your reservations??? If not then I don't think they can charge it to you... Just call your CC company and deny the charges...

Nope they never told me of that charge. They told me that I would have to put it on credit card to get the room that quick, which I thought was weird and have never heard of before. The ONLY day I could've cancelled was the day I made the reservation. Well I didn't get the paperwork untill a few days later. If I were to cancel within 14 days I would loose all the $ that I put out. It is crazy and I will get it fixed! I will deny the charges because it just was NOT told to me in anyway shape or form!

Good...

Four Points Sheridan should not charge you anything to cancell your reservations... They are a large chain and are much more respectable... But do it soon so that you can get into the nicer hotel...

Peer Pressure... :p

I cancelled everything that we have done through Summit County Reservations and rebooked at the Quality. Ryan had me deal with them when this all started because he was so mad... They never even told him where they booked him, we found out through the written confirmation. They call it a $75 "handling fee" when you cancel at this Wildernest place where he originally was booked. If he would have cancelled 2 weeks or less before August 31st, he would have lost the entire 3 nights' money! I guess we would have had a nice condo, but that's nuts.

I used to work at a hotel and I've never heard of anything like that, especially this far in advance. I guess after our example everyone else will be careful now and not make that mistake... :)

reservations made...

at the Quality Inn. Thanks Chris & Heath!
Just wondering, how close are we getting to having a run schedule?

reservations made ............

I made my reservations at the Quality Inn today. I've reserved from Thursday through Monday night.

6 weeks to go!

Just realized, I've got a conference to attend in SF before leaving for this.

I may not be there till late friday nite; I'm not 100% positive on thursday yet.

Matt, like I said before, I'm looking for a roomie but won't arrive until Saturday afternoon. Marshall mentioned something awhile back but I haven't heard from him. How about rooming with me?

ok well I just found out that SHandell and Brendan will be attending with me, so unless someone needs a room at last minute or really wants to try sleeping through a crying baby, then I am out as a roomy, if someone needs though our door will be open.

Chris I will be getting there Friday evening now, maybe we can find everyone (that should be realy hard, lol) and have dinner that night. I also booked, last night, rooms at the Quality Inn, talked to Anna very nice and helpful!

I'm glad it sounds like everyone's having success booking at the Quality Inn. If the initial 10 rooms have already been taken, let me know and I'll talk to Anna about getting some more at that rate - shouldn't be a problem.

As for the Summit County Reservations people, who it sounds like are trying to screw over Ryan, I'm amazed! Ryan & Maranda, did you speak to Laura or someone else? Like I said, if you continue to have problems, let me know and I'll be happy to call on your behalf.

Wabbit, as for a run schedule, we're still pre-running but plan to have something posted by the beginning of August...

This weekend we went with Rick and Char over Red Cone and there is still snow on some of the trails.
Chris said they did some trails also and got snowed on a little. We just got rained on but then we were still at the beginning.
Have to remember at 12,000 ft. the weather is a LOT different up there.
I can say this, I know Ptarmigan Pass will be on the list and we did that one and it is a really cool trail.
I think everyone will like the runs that are picked.

Just so everyone is aware, I updated the main thread with some information on camping areas I was able to find in that area...

When I called they said Laura wasn't there that day. I had her look up some Explorer people arriving the same day and when she couldn't find their reservations I knew something wasn't right. I never got her name though, and she didn't have many suggestions except that she thought "we'd be really happy with the Wildernest". She then said she would call back when Laura was back and it never happened. I ended up calling again and talking to another lady who cancelled us, and she sounded a little embarassed about the handling fee but said because it was in writing on our confirmation sheet, nothing could be done.

What a mess... at least it's all straighted out, minus the 75 bucks dang it!

Well, since I don't exactly know what you guys had arranged (condo?) through Wildernest, I guess it's between you and them. I'd assumed you had just booked a room at the Sheraton Four Points...

At any rate, I still think it's ridiculous for them to charge you the $75 and have made myself a note to be very leery of calling them in the future...
