Is it possible to put a 97 xlt cd changer in a 2001 xlt?

Yes it should be the same unit. The consoles have a wiring harness in them, as does the dash of a changer equipped model.

thnx mine dont have a changer in it now but I have to find a wiring harness for it

My 98 truck has an adapter that connects the OEM type radio to the OEM changer. There are many adapters for most vehicles, see if they make what you need. Good luck,

The adapter in my 98 truck plugs directly into the changer, an OEM changer. The adapter has been made, I just don't know where it came from. Mine was in the truck when I bought it, I didn't know that it wasn't a factory changer Ford. It should depend on what you want, the factory radio and its safety/convenience etc, or the flashy new aftermarket stuff etc. I like my Mach radio and OEM steering wheel controls.

I know, but the adapter if available makes a direct connection, and the function button operates the changer. My adapter could be duplicated but I won't do it. Surely someone still makes the thing, the cable for the changer is actually very long. It may reach the quarter panel, and I have a Music Keg to swap in some day.
