I'm going to be replacing my shocks on 92 Explorer XLT this week some time.
I'm probably going to be getting some Monroe Magmum Shocks, or at least thats what i thnk the Parts store said the Monroes were called....anyone had experience with these Monroe shocks??
My Second Question is ....Can anyone tell me the easiest way to replace shocks on a 91-94.....I have the Explorer maintence book, and it tells me how....i was just wondering if anyone knows an easier way to change them?? If not if you do it by the Explorer Maintence book, is it really easy?
I doubt that the whole job will take very long, i was just wondering if there is any short cuts. Do you have to take off the tires when you replace them?
THanks in advance,
RYan

To do the fronts you need to take off the wheels, but not to do the rears. If you have an impact wrench and an extension you get to the top nut from in the engine compartment, it makes the job a ton easier. And yes, you can even reach the passenger side from the engine compartment even though when you look at it, it doesn't look like you can...it's easiest if you feed the extension up from the bottom. The rears are very straight forward. It's not too tough of a job at all. Hope that helps.

To remove the front ones, you do not even need to take off the tires, just turn them all the way one way, then the other, took me less than 10 minutes to do both fronts, using an impact, of course.
I used Monroe SensaTracs, no complaints.

thanks for the help guys.
I'm not a really good mekanik, whats a impact wrench? whats it do? Do i really gotta use one,
what will i use it for?\
tHanks again

impact wrench

Well...it sure helps alot, it's an air tool, like they use in garages to take your wheels off. It requires an air compressor. I've never changed shocks without one...you might have trouble with the shock spinning. If you do, you might be able to hold the shock with a big pair of channel locks or something...anyone else have experience changing front shocks without air tools?
