Changing the all the Explorer's oils over to Synthetic (most likely to Amsoil). Now do I have to flush the old stuff out with the new or would it be ok to just drain the old stuff out and have some left over in there?

Very smart move and using Amsoil would be my recommendation.

Flushing the motor is not needed when making the switch.

Good luck and reap all the benefits of using synthetic fluids.

So I can drain everything out and replace with the new, that's good to hear. That would be same for the transmission, transfer case, rear and front end as well ?

If you flush the tranny with new ATF it would clear out virtually all the old.

Good luck ....

Dumping a bottle of Amsoil Engine Flush into the engine before changing could help you to start out "nice and clean" for the new synthetic. Certainly not necessary, but might clean out some gunk before you put that high dollar synthetic in.

I've heard that if you switch to synthetic on an older motor that the first or second oil changes with synthetic should be spaced around 3,000 miles apart because old sludge or other stuff is going to get dislodged. And then after a couple of oil changes it is OK to go to a longer interval with the synthetic. Is that true?

Not sure if that's true or not, but that's one idea behind using the engine flush. It would clean up any sludge or deposits, and give you a "clean" engine to switch to synthetic.
