'99 Limited AWD 5.0
I have the kinda "Dream" used vehicle everyone hopes to purchase. I bought my '99 5.0 AWD Limited from an airline pilot who did EVERYTHING by the Ford book!! And gave me EVERY receipt right from June '99 when he bought the thing! I must have 100 reciepts from this guy. Every oil change right on the money...3000 miles, every sevice interval, every issue seviced at Ford as well. The truck runs like new I must say, but enough of that. The point I am making, and want everyone's opinion on is, this vehicle has 116,000 miles on it and has only seen Motorcraft regular oil. I would feel better with M1 Syn in her. Temps get crazy here in Vegas and I pull my boat with her in summer. I am almost scared to change due to the fact she runs so great! Anyone think I will have any problems at all switching oil?

Thanks!!

You will have no issues and only will gain the benefits of Synthetic.
(If he changed it that regularly, I am suire the oil didn't even have a chance to get dirty let alone break down)

Sounds like you got a sweet deal!

x2. synthetic is good in every respect.

i just started running synthetic in my '93 last oil change (it just hit 200k) and it caused none of the silly "problems" you keep hearing about (oil leaks, smoking, etc)

Amsoil Signature Series 0w30 and Amsoil Ea filters is all my '99 5.0 has seen since I got her with with only 34,000 miles. 35,000 miles or one year intervals for changes. GREAT stuff. Go synth for sure. Nothing wrong with dino (conventional) oil, but Synth has the science behind it despite what the naysayers "profess".

Cool!! Thanks all!

Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend. Used Oil Analysis of Motorcraft posted at www.BobIsTheOilGuy.com are all very good. When the UOA's I got on my wife's Taurus comparing Mobil 1 and Motorcraft, each run for 5000 miles, were virtually identical, I figured I might as well save money and use Motorcraft. That said, I live in PA and not Las Vegas. My take, if you're going to continue to change the oil at 3000 miles I'd keep using Motorcraft, but it's your money. If you want to go 5000 miles or longer, then I'd use Mobil 1. FYI, on the couple of Ford 4.0 SOHC's I've owned, I got slightly better UOA results with Pennzoil Platinum than I did with Mobil 1.
