I own a 2003 XLT 4X4. While I have always done my own oil changes and basic PM, I realize I need to learn how to perform a chassis lube. What will I need (equipment and grease-wise), where on the chassis gets lubed, what is the process and is it an every oil change proceess or less frequently? Any help is appreciated.

There should be a diagram in the owners manual that will show where the chassis lube points are. However, on my 97 there really arent any lube points because the ball joints and tie rod ends are sealed and don't have any grease fittings. Some people replace the ball joints with greasable ones when they wear out.

I'm guessing that your 2003 is pretty much the same.

One other area that you should lube is the driveshaft slip joint (some refer to it as the slip yoke). It is also covered by a rubber boot, but the boot can be pulled back to grease it. You can search for more info.

I've wondered if I should be lubing the splines on the priamry and secondary driveshfts. Since they dont have zerks installed I've never done it.

Are you saying I can push back a rubber boot to lube the splines? I must admit I haven't really studied the shafts on my 2002 very much.
