I am new to the northern winter climate. What is the best way to wash the chassis of the explorer to prevent rusting? Is it good enough to spray water from hose on the warm days to get the salt off? Should I use some soap/degreaser or just spend the cash on a car wash place. What do you guys do? Thanks

I drive the front up on some ramps and use a water hose to spray the underside as good as I can.

yeah the hose will work but when i offroad i go to the carwash and use the power washer to get the crud off. I want to try and but bedliner on my frame or paint it because i am starting to get a good bit of rust and i only have a 99.

I'd really hesitate on using any sort of degreaser or detergent on the underside of your truck. You don't want to use anything that will strip the metal of wax, oil or grease that is preventing oxidization/rust.

Same logic for not using dish soap when washing your car - you'd be stripping the surface of wax.
