The 980's are plenty for me:

Good point about the wires. I really dont want to offend whomever the owner is but isnt that just a little overkill?

Awww....c'mon now!! I live in Brooklyn! Where's your sense of humor?

I know it was overkill, but it looked pretty good up close in person.

When I get my new bumper from TrailReady with the built (I just couldn't say fr$$ched) in fogs, I'ma put a set up in the "normal" location on each side of the winch and then figure out where I'm gonna light it up from there.

Oh yeah, and the guide sticks, the amber ones...they were lighted too! :D :D

It looked like a big green Christmas Tree! :D But I Liked It! :p

no offence to the owner of the "Overkill-light Explorer", but come on, what the heck are you thinking? Seriously! Why so many lights?

to the guys who are putting in HID lights.

Are you just swaping out the stock bulbs and putting in "imitation" HID bulbs (PIAA Hyper Whites, etc.) or are you guys adding the real thing? (modules, transformers, etc.)

If you are adding the real thing, was it hard? I know the actual kits cost quite a bit of money. Just wondering.:)

They're talking about actual HID retrofit kits, its a swapout of the bulb and the addition of the control ballast. Usually its pretty easy, but I've heard with 9007 there are issues with color and beam pattern, plus you loose the highs. Most people say "Well, you have HIDs you dont need highs" but on stock systems at least thats not the case. On my Lexus the stock HIDs have a leveling system which keeps the light level when the car is going up and down hills so they don't blind oncoming drivers. Well, the lights ae super bright, but there is a drastic cutoff right at the horizon line so when you're on a long dark road at night with no other cars you really need the highs.

Well lets see, have any of you driven in Brooklyn? They're great for scaring off idiots that try to swing U-Turns in front of you when they see you barreling down.

They wake up the idiots that sit at green lights waiting for a different shade of green, not to mention the Mac Truck Air horn up top. :D That's a REAL crowd pleaser.

They're great on dark dead roads, and some people put'em up on the roof-racks...since I don't have one- I hadda put'em someplace! :D

If you swap out for the high watt bulbs chances are you'll melt your housings before long, I know mine melted.

The 9007 HID Conversion is bulbs, ballasts and all- one, two, three- Plug-n-Play. Goes right in.

Mine too- 8000K w/Osram Ballasts.

Any body thinkin about it- DO IT!! It'd be the best dough spent! :D :D

I may be interested in doing this on the Explorer and my Sequoia, but I'd stick with 4100k which is what all the OEM HID systems are, its the only HID light color temp that is DOT street legal. Systems above 6000k are more purple and tend to actually have less light output. Some of the 8000k kits are actually painted, which to me doesn't really serve its purpose.

Man you guys really know how to take over a thread. Some newbie is going to do a search for HID's and come up with "tip of the day on chrome".

As ShadowA2J just pointed out......I know this is off topic, but if you are considering an HID kit....DO IT!.....you will not be dissapointed!....after wasting mega cash on all types of bulbs....and I mean I've tried MANY "pseudo" HID wanna be's......none of them come close to the kind of light output you will get with an HID retrofit kit, even with th sh*tty design of the 2nd gen headlamp fluting......I chose a $385 6500K kit, and couldnt be more pleased....(what did I have to lose?...I far exceeded that number, constantly trying different bulbs)

D

well ia am glad i started this

you have a point about the dark roads but that was a little overkill but you like them and if you do so do i and i have to say its different and i bet nobody elses truck has them so it is original Dead Link Removed

Now back on topic- Mothers Aluminum and Mag Wheel Polish!!!

1001 uses- Polish Gold, Aluminum, Chrome, clear the yellow of'a those yellow'd out lenses...I'm sure there's a whole lotta other stuff you can use it for, but that's all I've used it on so far! :D

Small digression and then right back on topic! :D
