I have a chatter when turning after taking off from a stop or at low speeds.

The weird thing is when it has been sitting long enough for everything to cool down it doesn't do it only happens after everything has gotten warmed up.

I have already changed the rear differental oil with mobil 1 75-140W and added friction modifier.

What do you think would help my problem do you think it is happening in the front end or maybe the transfer case?

It is an 02 4X4 4.0L Automatic.

Thanks

I had a sort of rattle with my '97, it turned out the bolts holding together the exhaust pipe were completely rusted and shot, so the exhaust pipe was really loose and it would rattle sometimes.

So I guess you could check the exhaust. Worth a shot.

There are TSBs out about this, look into those but it is common on these transfer cases for it to shutter like that, so definitely look into that...good luck...

are u having cm problems, is 4x4 lite flashing. put exp. n and step on brake to see if it goes into 4low. my 02 was chattering the transfercase motor was trying to put it in 4low at low speeds and when stopped. changed cm it works fine now no more chattering.

CM = control module?

I'm especially interested in what you're saying here: "put exp. n and step on brake to see if it goes into 4low"

What do you mean?

I have been having those chattering issues on mine forever, they seem to be getting progressively worse.

to put exp. in 4 low u have to with engine running step on brake and put trans in neutral, my transfer case motor was hunting 4 low causing the grinding noise, eventually it went into 4 low and i could not get it out. all was caused by the control module behind glove box, changed cm pushed 4auto all is good no more grinding noise. my bad cm was telling transfer case motor to go to 4 low i never pushed 4 low. of course at 15 deg. couldnt get the back screw out so i just wire tied the new cm to old, thats the way it will stay.

When this happened, were your dash lights indicating it was going into 4low at all?

the 4hi was blinking at first then went away then while going slow put exp. in reverse to back up heard grinding and 4low flashed. my son was driving it later he calls me and said he thinks the trany is going because it was grinding so i told him to park it, i just took a chance and changed cm and it worked knock on wood.
