cheapest place to get shocks

good find. thanks.

Hopefully my Monroes will have the wonderful warranty that you speak of. I know they also carry a lifetime warranty but I haven't read the fine print. After getting screwed by Edelbrock, I got the Monroes without any regards to their lifetime warranty figuring it would be the same conditions that Edelbrock has.

On a somewhat unrelated note though I was pleasantly surprised last weekend when I replaced my Wife's pads on her Sable. Two years ago I bought her Raybestos Brutestop pads for about $57 a set. They carry a lifetime warranty. After my Edelbrock ordeal I wasn't even going to bother with trying to get her worn out pads replaced under warranty so I went back to the Pep Boys parts counter and chose the Raybestos PG Plus pads for $45. I went to pay and asked the manager if she would match Autozone's price. She looked at my printout from Autozone's website selling the exact same part number for $40. She refused to give me the same price though since Autozone only covered the pads for one year and the Pep Boys manager said their warranty was lifetime. So I said to her "so you aren't going to sell me these pads for $40 instead of $45?". She said not with a lifetime warranty so I told her that I would just go get them at Autozone then and told her not to bother ringing up the $110 worth of rotors that I put on her counter as well. I left the store intent upon going to Autozone when it dawned on me that the pads I bought two years ago also had a lifetime warranty. Well if the store Manager was going to make such a big deal over their lifetime warranty (enough that it cost them a $150 sale to save $5) I would test it out. I went back home and got my receipt and went back to Pep Boys with my worn out pads and receipt. I went straight to the parts counter and asked what their procedure was for their lifetime warranty. All he said was that I just had to bring in my pads. I handed him the pads in a Wal-Mart bag so he went and pulled a new set of the better Brutestop pads off the shelf and took them out of the box. He wrote defective on a red tag and told me to take them to the front with my old receipt. I could hardly control my laughter when the Manager had to come over and authorize the new set of $57 pads for no charge. If she wouldn't have pushed the issue the first time I would have spent $150 in the store while purchasing a new set of pads and two rotors. Instead I left with a $57 set of pads without having spent a dime in here store.:)

The monroe shock warranty I speak of is thorough Midas, not Monroe.

I buy all my brake pads at AutoZone, also Calipers, alternators, etc. Because they allhave a lifetime warranty. For guys like me this is perfect since I have had my truck for over 6 years and plan to keep it for another 20-30.

I wouldnt buy anyhting but the best brake pads because stopping this heavy 4x4 with a boat is very important to me. Raybestos makes good ones, the carbon metallic, but Bendix fleet grade pads are the best (from what I hear, I have reabestos).

Last time I did the brakes on my truck it cost me $40 I think, thats 4 new calipers and 4 new sets of pads.......the only reason it cost me that much is because it was my first set of $12 calipers for my rear axle. :)

Right now I have Duff 70/30 shocks for a 3" lift, and they suck! They are very stiff. Before my lift I had the Monroe Sensa tracs rom Midas, and they gave me 3 sets in 4 years, I only paid once.
Now I am looking into the Rancho 9000's because with 5" lift and 3" shocks they are limiting my travel......
I may also convert to some resevoir shocks. :)

Good luck......

Yeah, I was all set to go to Autozone to buy my pads until I realized that my pads I bought at Pep Boys had the lifetime warranty. I found an old Pep Boys receipt that detailed their Lifetime warranty policy and it stated that the warranty didn't cover things like abuse, off-road use or wearout. I also dug out my receipt for my O2 sensors that I bought from autozone and their lifetime warranty policy clearly states that it does cover wearout. Fortunately my pads on my Explorer came from Autozone. I bought my Wife's pads before I knew the lifetime warranties differed. As long as Pep Boys keeps providing free pads though, I'll keep exchanging my Wifes there. If I end up having to pay for the next set, I'll buy them at Autozone. Her car is hell on front pads. She only got 20K out of them whereas I just put my second set on my Explorer in its 100K miles. Both times still had a fairly decent amount of material left on mine. I probably could have gone another 10K.
