check engine 1997x reads err

new here first post hopefully in the right place...
just bought 1st explorer sport 4.0sohc...check engine light on used scan tool to check ..links and reads err....checked forums for info ...checked cigar fuse blown(fuse 17 in cab) checked power to obd2 connection ...12 volts pin 16 ...4.5 volts pin 7 .. pins 4 @ 5 no resistance...tried second scan tool new version still reads err...is the pcm shot? the vehicle runs great and drives well need to get rid of check engine light before it goes threw aircare for insurance.. any suggestions ..thanks in advance...

I am very good in identifying codes and what they mean and cant say that I have heard this one before. I dont know if you can but if you have a tool that can erase and reset the codes I would try that and see if the next time the light comes on you can get a number.

tried that still nothing ...stop and restart the vehicle no light drive a block comes back on..really strange and after 2 scan tools reading nothing...still the same.. confusing to say the least
