I have a 98 explorer ohv vin.x I have a one of a kind cause they make no manuals for it.Anyways about 3 months go the CEL came on and I had it diagnosed at autozone and they said it was the camshaft position sensor so i had it replaced and the codes reset and the light comes right back on when this all first started there was loud squeeking noises when i would be idling or just started the truck. When they took the old sensor out the magnet was broken could it be the camshaft position sensor assembly that spins around the magnet and when they did the diagnosis after it was fixed it said it could be a misfire also.I dont know what to do now cause I need to smog it this week and register it.the code is p0340 iif that helps.Any help is appreciated.

My code list says p0340 is "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction" That could be wiring connections, too. Maybe a hunk of your old magnet is stuck inside & giving a blip that sets the code? I dunno.

when they replaced te old sensor they took the old magnet out so i dont know what it could be im thinkin its the assembly and thats $200 plus labor.I cant even see where its locatedotherwise i would investigate it

i am still havin problems with my sensor is there any way to adjust it or anything because I need to have it smogged by the end of the month any help asap would be appreciated.when autozone resets it it just comes back on and i cant figure out why i changed the cam sensor wire plugs and it still doesnt help.

I know it's a painful bite out of the wallet area of your butt-ocks, but maybe a more or less competant Ford dealer is the answer. It's a gamble, but you're in Vegas. Autozone just isn't going to get the practice the dealer guys get on driveability/emissions/CEL. Your code points to the cam sensor, but a new one didn't fix it. And the emissions deadline is looming. I'm afraid you're over a barrel.

As a fellow Vegas X -Man, I'd take it to Team Ford up near Ann and 95. I don't have too much experience at gaudin, but Friendly Ford's service department is filled with a@@holes and idiots. Hope that helps some.
