I have to start off by saying that i LOVE my explorer. Its a 98 Eddie Bauer 5.0 with only 78k. I bought the truck close to a year ago, day i bought it the check engine light came on. Brought it back, they changed a sensor, then a month later it came back on again. Went back, they changed something else, and i was fine for a couple more months until it came back on again. Its been on for the past 7 or so months. My MPG is fine, runs fine, so i ignored it. I finally scanned the code and its giving me P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)) . What are the chances i need a new cat with only 78k??? could the sensor just be dirty or malfunctioning? How easy is it to find and change the sensor myself, where is that one located? Also a couple months ago i cleaned my IAC and my check engine light went off when i started it up, stayed off for 2 weeks then came back on..? ic ant get the cel to turn off on this damn truck!

Both of our V8 Mountaineers gave Check Engine lights at about 75-85k miles and both needed only the O2 sensor on the exhaust right under the driver side floor. About $85 each from any of the usual parts stores.

Make sure you use a wire tie to keep the pigtail from coming into contact with the exhaust when you're done.

At about 125k miles, the Check Engine lights came on again, and this time it was the sensor all the way behind the EFI plenum. They were about $135 and could only be had from the Ford dealer, and involved laying on top of the plenum to reach 'em.
