The check engine light has just come on in my 2006 Eddie 4x4 V8. Can someone tell me how I can pull the code? Thank you!

You need a code reader to pull the codes. You could buy one fairly cheap or take it to Autozone and they will pull the codes for free. If you take it to Autozone you can listen to their suggestions on what the problem is but I wouldn't recommend buying anything until you've confirmed what the problem is with this forum.

Hmmm. That stinks -- they are closed until Friday. I wonder if it is okay to drive since it's not blinking? I have about a 4 hour round trip to make tomorrow. I have another car, but like the idea of 4WD in the snow.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

I think it will be OK to drive for now, until you can get the codes pulled on Friday. If it was blinking I would say not unless absolutely necessary because the cats would be in danger. But since you said it's not blinking I don't think you'll do any damage driving it for a few hours.

Interesting that it has now turned off all by itself. I didn't do a thing -- haven't even had someone pull the codes.

If I go to Autozone and have them pull the code, will it "pull" anything if the light is off?

Thanks!

There should still be a code stored in the memory even though the light is off.

I just got back from AutoZone. They put the scanner on it and said it was showing a code for the "oil temperature sensor." He checked their parts list and he doesn't even show this sensor as one they sell -- I am thinking that Ford would, though. :)

I'm curious what would have caused this sensor to make the CE light go off? It was very cold that day -- 2 degrees, but the vehicle had been running for 15min. Further, it's operated in much colder temps. than that as recently as two days prior when it was -6 degrees here in Chicago-land. I run Mobil 1 Synthetic fill in it and have since the first oil change -- it now has 66,000 miles on it. Not sure if any of this would matter, or not.

Since the light is off now, I am inclined to do nothing about it unless someone knows something about this sensor that I am missing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
