Hey guys well the check engine soon light came on yesterday and i really don't know why. So i unplugged the battery for about half an hour before i had to go out then the light was off. Did my trip to the store came back still off went out about 1 hour later and it came back on. So i am guess that there is something wrong. I wanted to know if Autozone will charge me for reading the on board computer and tell me what to buy so i can install it and get ride of this light before it gets really cold out? Thanks as always guys ohh and the truck is a 02 explorer 4.6 v8 EB.

Yes, they will read the codes for no charge.
Please, Under no circumstances let them sell you a part before you post the code here. For instance, the common issue is an 02 sensor code, for which they will try to sell you 02 sensors. They are rarely the true problem.

Hey guys i forgot to post my code on here because i have been just so busy. Anyway the light is still on and the code is P0401. They guy said i need a new EGR value. Cost about $64 for the part. Just wanted to know if that is all i need as i didn't buy anything? Also wanted to know how hard is to install a EGR Value? Thanks guys

ok whoa-
there are 2 rubber lines going to the DPFE sensor-check them real good. They sometimes will split-look real good. It helps to take them off.
Check that they are not clogged while they are off.
look at the DPFE sensor--is it melted, or are the connection nipples rotted?
Then, verify the egr valve is actually getting vacuum

sometimes-the egr valve will be dirty and clogged-

If you can apply vaccum to the egr valve and it holds it, and all above items have been checked-I'd replace the DPFE sensor as the first replacement part.

I'll try to find a picture of the DPFE stuff--

Here ya go
#1 is the egr valve
#2 is the DPFE
#3 is the egr tube--see the smaller tubes running off it?
#5 is the egr vacuum regulator (switches vacuum to the egr when the PCM calls for it)

If flow is not detected By the DPFE, you will get a p0401 code-but as you can see there are several more likely suspects then the egr valve itself.

Now that we have gone through all of this, you'll probably be the one in a thousand that do have a bad egr valve--ha ha
