2002 Explorer Sport
I recently bought an 2002 Explorer Sport and the check fuel cap light came on along with the check engine light. I purchased a new fuel cap from a ford dealer three weeks ago and the check lights are still on. I called the dealer back and the mechanic said it could take up to 250 miles before the lights went out. Well I'm up to 300 miles traveled and the lights are still on. Any ideas what the problem could be? I don't want to drop a couple of hundred dollars at the dealer for something simple.

Thanks

Never thought to do that, D'oh. I'll try it when I get out of work and let ya'all know.

Thanks.

Let me know if that works... I have an 02 Explorer, and actually just picked up an 02 Mountaineer that has the 'check gas cap' light on. I switched out the cap with my Explorer, but the light was still on. I didn't think to disconnect the battery to clear it out. Let me know if that works for you.... Thanks!
