I just stole my girlfriends grandfathers SSR for the weekend, and damn. :D

Its brand new with the 6.0 LS2  and Heavy-Duty 4spd Auto :thumbdwn: This thing just hauls, putting down around 300Ft/lbs just above idle and 400hp/400ftlbs max. ALso avaliable with an older 5.3 V8 (LS1?) and a 6-spd Manual (T-56)

5-link rear with some nice wide P295/40R-20 in the rear and with the LS diff it really hooks up well, but if you turn off the traction control you can still spin em if you punch it around 50mph. Handling is VERY tight, feels like a sports car.

It is a little hard to see out of, with huge blind spots and the bulged out fenders make getting into parking spots a little tight. Other than that, and the bowtie on the grille, no complaints.

Also, one of the nifty little chevy gadgets was a factory installed Torque gauge showing how many ft/lbs one was applying.

The speedo tops at 150 but I think its got quite a bit more left, never got the chance to find out. Had it to 130 and it still rode clean and smooth, little noisy because its a convertible but it certainly a head turner.

i test drove one about 2 months ago- very very disappointed.

Regardless of how fast it is, it's still ugly as sin. It's right down there with the Honda CRX. When I see one I want to puke.

With a hunk of **** that heavy, you don't want a manual. Too hard to predict the shift point, as with the automatic they're always the same. Yes, they are more fun, but with 400 ft/lbs, it will become the weaklink in the drive line.

I dont quite follow you on the unpredictable shift points. Because of the weight? I drive a 250 PSD all the time with the 5spd manual and with all the torque it makes for a relativly easy drive. Despite size and weight. The ideal shift point is right around 2500 depending on the grade you are on, its very easy to get a feel for the truck. Also responds quite well to quick shifts IMO (quick used relative to a vehicle of that weight)

The only thing I can remember being unpredictable driving was an older Xj sport with 4.5" lift, 33's and 3.07's!!!! That was VERY hard to drive, granted the owner has no problems with it but it was quite hard.

As for the looks, well I never said I liked them either. I used to be downright disgusted but they have grown on me a bit. I still hate the front end but the profile and the rear are kinda sleek.

And to all the underpowered naysayers, the older models with the 5.3 have been done away with and the new 6.0 seems to fill it out quite well.

I meant there's no worrying about missing the gears powerband..
