I promise last thread from me on this subject, I have decided on 35 tires, with 9 inches of lift, and have narrowed it down to two brands, first one is the M/T baja claw radials, and second the XTerrains, any thoughts on either? They look similar in design, and cost is comparable.

I ike the look of the M/T baja claw's that i what I would go with.

That's the way I have been leaning, just curious if any had experience with either.

pick either, they are the same tire. we build 'em here, and every part of the tires are interchangable. the only difference is the mold is different (what makes the letters/tread design). same tire, different shaped tread pattern. and BTW, thanx. you are keeping me in a job.:D

alec swears by his xterrains, i i have heard that rick had a pain in the butt time with his baja claws.... so i would get the x terrains....

Anytime:D , yeah that's what I was wondering, I have heard mixed feelings about the claw's, I don't wheel much, and looking for a decent highway, and offroad tire, it's an average of about 5 hours to any good off road spot.

The M/T Claw Radials are a great tire. Just whatch your tire pressure and keep it aligned. There a some what soft tire for pavement use. Mine lasted about 13,500 miles with I'd say about 70% left on them. Good tire!! But Swamps are better.;)

I love my 33" Xterrians. I've never ran the other brand.

Thanks guys,
Yes swampers are on my future list, but for now looking for a less aggressive tread, still leaning towards the claws, they are a little less the xterrains on a combo deal from desert rat. I only drove the ex about 12,000 miles in the last 15 months, so I think mileage wise I will be okay.

exploder-1 4wheel parts does specials on the procomp tires where you buy 3 and get 1 free.... that may be cheaper than desertrats combo deals..... i am still for xterrains all the way..... i have heard only rave reviews about the xterrains, and about only a 50% positive feedback on the claws.....

Even thought the Xterrains are rated like an AT, they are the stickiest tire I have ever had. At 13 psi I can wrap it around a rock almost to the bead - and not worry about popping the bead. Yes, I am going to swampers now, but that's because Tramp is no longer a daily driver. Get the Xterrains - you will be very pleased.

The XTerrians aren't too bad at the track either :p

How long are the xterrains lasting?

Are you getting 40k miles out of set?

I only ask becuase I love the Yokohama Geolander MT tires (really sticky when wheeling) but I only got 20k miles out of them...

Hmm....
Now I am starting to lean the other way, Alec, any problem as far as balance or being out of round? Jon, is that xterrains in your avatar?
David

Xterrains should give you a legit 30k in miles.

Yes David - those are the Xterrains in my avatar. I really love these things, but since I don't drive it everyday, I can go really extreme - tsl sx's!

Thanks, Jon
This still a daily driver, so I wanted something that was tall, but still rode decent. Next year, my wife gets a new converson van, then the ex retires to a life of offroading only, that's where the van comes in, tow rig! Hehe, she doesn't know it yet, until we move to Fl., there is no reason for real aggressive tires. The ground up here is fairly solid.

I'll probably get 30-40k out of mine. I haven't had any problems balancing them. My truck feels as good at 100 mph as it does at 60 mph :D

Oh, and at the track they were almost too sticky, I was afraid I was gonna break something!

uh oh, that means its time to upgrade all the rotating assemblies (driveshaft, axle, etc ;))

Nah, just no more track for me. Or at least not that track. They put down a lot of sticky stuff for all the front-drivers who were spinning. Most of the high power rear driver guys were complaining.

Track times is no concern to me, but I do not want to fork out a bunch of money for crappy tires, so this is what I am going to get, if I don't change my mind. 15x10 M/T classic II's with 35 x 12.50 XTerrains, there is only a 70 dollar difference in price, I can live with that. Now I am unsure that 35's will be large enough under a 9 inch lift. Do I go 37's, maybe?
