When my brake lights stayed on, I removed the switch, sanded down the contacts (due to buildup from arcing), and lubed the plunger. It has been working great ever since.

The whole thing is a great read. My experience starts at post #20 and there are good pics by azdevildog0311.

Brake lights and cruise????

:us:Thanks for the info but can anyone tell me how long i have before my Explorer's battery dies?? It is pouring rain so hard to do any work at the moment! Started to stay on around noon today and the back lights are getting hot!! So about 5 hours. Funny thing is at the same time my cruise control quit working all together??!!??!! Any ideas??

ALWAYS disconnect the battery, especially doing electrical work.
