Hello,

planning on cleaning the throttle body on my 2010 explorer w/4.0 and was wondering if I it's necessary to relearn/clear the ECU/PCM unit after putting back on ? And should I use that loctite on the threads which is usually on the bolts when first installed?

thanks,

No, you don't need to clear the PCM. Simply cleaning the TB won't change anything that might affect the PCM parameters. And personally, I wouldn't bother with any type of thread locking stuff. Just make sure it's bolted back on good and snug. I've done several TB's like this, and never had any problems.

thanks that's what I kinda of thought myself but wanted to check with someone who's done it before. Had to once before after replace the MAF senors shifted like crap for about a half day then worked great after that.

I happened to clean my 2008 X throttle body the other day. I found cracked and arched wires. $1,100 - new throttle body and wire harnesses. Be gentle with the harness - my recommendation

Eddie -

$ 1,100 for what ?

What was wrong with TB ?

The main harness melted - for lack of a better description. The speed sensor wire fried too. Plus the gear reduction gear broke three teeth. Most of the cost was dianostic related. He tosses in an oil change, rotate and balance. The price was higher but I asked for a professional courtesy since my dad is a dealer. And I had a bad fuel injector - wire harness and injector replace. I didn't believe the dealer until he showed me the harness and the noid test on the injector wiring. Its been in the shop for five days now. Supposed to get it back by 3pm

Ouch that's gotta hurt.

especially after I spent $2K on a new tranny a month ago.... My wife wants to bury the car.

yep, they are nice when they run, but little/small stuff here and there can drive you into a bad mood quickly.

The kicker is that I bought a new throttle body and installed it before I went to the dealer, from Rockauto. Little did I know the fried harness fried the new throttle body somehow. So I went through two throttle bodies before the Motorcraft one just installed. As I was disassembling the original throttle body, I could see the melted wires on the harness. I tried to tape them to separate them. I know I was in for it. And the stumbling was an injector that I would have never tested.

I recently installed a new AAA battery, fan clutch, alternator (130), water pump, radiator - flushed twice, cleaned the MAF, distributor, plugs, wires, And I just received the gaskets for the intake manifold. The scrapes on my right hand are evidence of the PCV and tube being replaced. I think (knock on wood) the only thing left is to wait for the timing chain guides to fail. 126,000 on the odo. Once the manifold is out, I'm going to noid test all the connector. I really can't afford six new injectors at this point. unless I have to. I change my oil every 3,000 miles to keep those guide rails lubed well.

Once received I'll post my oil analysis from Blackstone of a 3,000 mile change and a 100 mile change with Seafoam mailed last week. That should be interesting. I may send a sample of my tranny fluid too. I always run synthetic, I thought it wold clean my engine. The 100 mile seafoam change looked like running mud. I did a fluid and filter flush too just to get any remaining gunk out of the engine. I think that was a good idea. I used O'riellys synthetic and a migroguard filter for $21. I'm going to run it for 100 miles and send that to Blackstone too. One positive is the ticking/lifter sound went way for now.

When I need a new motor I'll have to wait until my wife goes out of town or she'll force me to put a .308 round into the radiator and bury the car.....not literal!!! It's still cheaper than a new truck.

now that's what I call a learning experience and an expensive one.

Agreed

I am seeing a lot of posts recently of brittle or cracked wire insulation. Is this a problem with these Ford harness or inadequate for the heat in the engine area. Move ventilation may be needed if thats the case.

I think weather and climate conditions can also cause these issue.

I see he's in LA and hotter than here in Southern Ontario. But Black hoods will get hot enough to fry bacon on them here as well. So I don't know and when the engines is running Singed turkeys!!

Yup, it's a lack Explorer. But I do keep it garaged during the heat of the day. I work out of the house.

Total cost $1,076.01
Labor rate $145. Sounds outrageous.

I'm calling back since they charged my list price since he said he wouldn't since my dad is a dealer. He did toss in a rotation and balance for free. I'm not hopeful he'll reduce the price. I think that's a $100 value.
