96 XLT 4wd v6. I'm hearing and feeling a clicking/groaning coming from the rear of the truck. The clicking/groaning is more pronounced when more weight/load is placed on the rear axles. Every "slight" dip in the road makes the noise louder. I took it to a non-dealer repair shop. They said the problem was a bad rear axle bearing and emergency brake calipers. They also said the housing that held the bearing was bad. They replaced bearing and emergency brakes, but it continues to make the same noise. Can the housing that holds the bearing actually go bad? Would new bearings still make the noise? Any suggestions? Thanks for all your replies.

you may also want to check you universal joint, and yeah the housing can get worn, they sell inserts to fix the wearing and tighten up the bearings.
