I get a noise in my center console when the HVAC is running. It is not the cd changer as the noise goes away when the ac/heat is turned off. Any suggestions?? It is a 97 EB. Is there a blend door for the rear heat?

Sounds like you probably have something in the hvac duct down there. Maybe something fell through the vents on the back of the console?

I have 97 EB and also have the HVAC related clicking noise. Did you find out what was the cause?

Fix for ticking clicking noise in center console - 97 Eddie Bauer

The ticking/clicking noise was really getting to me so I opened up the center console. After completely tearing apart the arm rest part of the center console I got to the blower motor. Attached to the blower motor housing is a white box. The noise was coming from this box, part #F57H 19E616 CA (blender motor).

On the 97 and earlier 2nd generations the blower motors had this blend door and blend door motor. I also have a 99 explorer, I took that one apart as well and in the 99 the blower motor no longer has this blend door or blend door motor in the center console.

I am getting rid of my 99 ex so to fix my problem I simply swapped the blower motor from the 99 into the 97. If you don't have one to swap you can just unplug the blend door motor and the noise will go away. Make sure the blend door is in the open position when you do or you won't get any air flow.

I took pictures of the two different motors and will post them when I get a chance.

Well I'm guessing he never got a chance to post the pictures. :( My Explorer has this problem now and after tearing the console mostly apart I was not able to get to the blower motor, I could see it but that was about all. Found the connector 05Dink05 pointed out. Did some low tech engineering and found four wires showing power with the connector inserted into the control head and three when unpluged so I knew these were power in and the now dead one was power out. As 05Dink05 stated when unpluged there was no noise so I knew power came to the control head first and then to whatever was clicking. Short story is I cut the "dead" wire hoping it was the power to the clicking part and pluged the connector back in an no more clicking and everything works (blower motor, lights, radio controls and upper/lower vents control). Now for my questions, 05Dink stated this was a blend door. Isn't the rear hvac just a "piggyback" style unit? I mean doesn't it simply have a air duct that runs from the front system and a blower to boost the flow? So why have a blend door in line? BTW whatever's clicking, looks like the complete console will have to be pulled to get to it. My girl is getting old. Whew....
