Flexible polyurethane. Manufacturers like Energy Suspension, Daystar, etc. make High Quality bushings. These bushings are Flexible like rubber but with all the durability of being polyurethane.

My advice is don't skimp with cheapo AutoZone polys and get the good ones. RAB's are very VERY important on the TTB trucks ride quality and handling.

what is TTB trucks?..sorry for the newbie stuff..lol

twin traction beam... that is what your style front suspension is...

Hey proffessor, what shop in NJ is doing your work, I live in central jersey and need my bushings done as well.
Thanks

A friend gave me their number and said they do work on his car when he needs it. I'm thinking of getting some other estimates, but 185 isn't really that bad.

no problem..I think most places have a book that tells them how long something takes..and they charge by that...

RA Bushing Kits

I just did my RA Bushings this weekend and I got my kits from Ford. $45.00 for both sides. I also needed to replace my right side bracket ($45.00 from Ford)because I let the bad bushing go to long and it really screwed up the hole that the RA goes through on the bracket. The front (mushroom) bushing is poly, but the back one is rubber. Can you get a back bushing that is poly? I have not yet checked these kits from the various places people have mentioned.

As for the rivets I used my Makita hand grinder with two cutting wheels. One was a 7 inch, and the other was a 4.5 inch. Not even 5 minutes per rivet head. Then I used an air hammer to push the rest of the rivet out. It was easier than I thought it would be. It also helps to support the frame with jack stands toward the middle of the vehichle. Then you can take a jack and adjust the radius arm height to where you need it to remove and replace parts. This was a very handy tip that I got from another Explorer site.

Happy Wrenching!!

Would this be the same problem for a 98 XLT? I have the same noise and cant figure out what it would be. On that explorer express i only saw ones for 91-94. Anyone know?

Well I picked up my truck last night from having the RA bushings done... sure is a lot quieter when hitting the bumps.

It came in at $194 and change, parts and labor with the HD Moog setup. They ground off the rivets and installed bolts... he was saying the bolts come with the kit....I was looking at repair .. they are the 12 point kind of bolts.

he had quoted me something like 225.
That was a nice suprise..

is the handling any better when hitting the bumps?

I just thought I would add that I had a strange intermintint clunk. When It got cold I tracked it down to the endlinks on the sway bar. The drivers side endlink was the culprit. I got 3 good turns out of the nut. No clunk. The best part was it was a free fix!:D

Yeah, how's it ride now with the new RA bushings. The clunk gone.

its kinda funny .. I just got the truck a few months ago
I thought it was just how it handled.. it really didn't clunk until it got cold... but once the weather got cold you could really feel it on your feet when you went over the bumps. Also I was worried I would damage the brackets like some others on the board have if I left it.

It handles much better now.. doesn't dip as much, no clunk also the antilocks dont seem to be kicking in as much....

I do almost all my own work, If the weather were decent I may have tried it myself but all in all I'm glad I took it in and got it done..

On to the next thing on the list..

I did mine on my 94 a few months ago and i bought the parts at autozone for $20 (most places charge $60 for the bushings) I took a grinder and cut the ends of the rivets off and took a chisel and knocked the rivet out. Put the new bushings in a replaced them with 4 GRADE 8 bolts (2 on each side) about 1 1/4" long and 7/16" in diameter in size with 14 threads. I didnt have a manual or anything..it was my first time doing it...also saved me $280 :D

Incase anyone else wants to know how to save $280

btw autozone bushings are exactly the same as any bushing u are going to get from ford or any other place.

Please Explain as I am confused.

ok, if I buy new bushings, should I get the basic or one with camber adjustment. If I get camber adjustment how do I make that adjustment.
