when i stop at a light or stop sign, from a normal speed, sometimes i hear a "clunking" noise in the rear and the truck kind of bucks, it almost feels as if somebody has hit me really lightly from behind. any ideas? it's a 4.0 sohc automatic w/ 4x4, ~95k miles

thanks for any help

when these cars start torquing around (bucking) sometimes the exhast moves an exponential amount and hits the shackles and all kinds of stuff underneith there. just check to see if the exhaust is hitting something

Lube the Slip Yoke.

bad ball joints? or radius arm bushings? I know when mine were bad and the weight transferd to the front under breaking it would clunk and it felt like the back end but it was when the weight transferd to the front you get the clunk.

How about a light clunk only when braking hard to a stop? Like when I'm doing 55 & I come to a stop quick for a light I hear a clunk when I near full stop. This is the only time I hear it. If I lightly brake I don't. The brakes were done & did it before that anyway. Everything is lubed. The RA bushings appear to be in good shape they don't look worn. I don't see any movement. Shop couldn't see anything wrong.
