2002 explorer sport
Hi. I'm sure this has been answered, so sorry in advance. I have a 2002 explorer sport, and when I come to a complete stop, I hear a little bit of a clunking noise. It doesn't come to a smooth stop. I was thinking about replacing the front shocks with KYB monomax to help stop the "nose diving' front end. Back to the clunking. Any ideals what that could be? I do have about a half of inch play in the rear when I go forward and backwards with the drive shaft. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply. I did install new sway bar links. Any tips on what I should be looking for? Thanks again.

you have 4 struts not shocks. just want to point this out.

Hi Wasky. I have a Explorer Sport, not Sport trac. I have 4 Shocks. I replaced the back shocks with Monroe Sensatrac shocks with springs on them. I tow a 17' boat. What front end parts tend to wear out that would cause a noise after braking. Thanks for your input, and thanks to you swshawaii for your input as well.

You should be in the 1995-2001 explorer sub-forum for your sport anyways. Those guys are more familiar with your suspension components than a lot of us are in here. Ask your question in the right place and you'll get the answers you're looking for.

Hi Im Brian, Just wondering why I should be in the 1995-2001 forum? My truck is a stock 2002 Ford explorer Sport.

Your 2002 sport is based on the 1995-2001 2nd generation design, NOT on our 2002-2005 3rd generation. It clearly says it right in the description of this sub-forum.

Posting your questions in the proper sub-forum helps cut back on the clutter and makes it easier for users to find the proper information when they need it. I would also suggest using the search function before starting a new thread. 99% of the time someone else has had the same issue already; and has discussed it.

Beginning with the 2002 model year, Ford installed a fully independent rear suspension in the Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer
(but not in the 2-door Explorer Sport). When the Explorer was redesigned for 2002, the Explorer Sport continued unchanged for 1 more year.

Adding confusion, the 2 door Sport also falls into the 2001-05 ST category from the "C" pillar forward. OP, check your slip yoke if 4WD.

Thank You HiIm Brian. I'll post any new questions there. swshawaii, I grease the slip joint and I believe that my have been my problem. Thank you very much.
