Hey everyone. I am the proud owner of a '94 Explorer Limited. 124k, still runs very well....

I am having a slight problem - about 2 months ago I had the tranny rebuilt. The tranny works perfectly now, but I am experiencing a problem in the rear end of the vehicle now.

When I accelerate from a stop, or at any point when i am in first gear, and then let off the accelerator completely, i get a very loud clunk from the rear end of the vehicle. actually I can't completely tell if its from the back of the tranny or maybe closer to the differential, etc?

Has anyone ever run into this problem or can anyone offer up some advice as to what its related to? After I get out of 1st gear, the vehicle behaves completely normal, no noise, etc...

thanks,
pablo

This might be worth a look, I had a banging sound in the rear of mine and the spare tire was not tight enough, just enough slack in the cable to let it flop around.

yead that was the first think i considered but i cranked it up real tight and still no luck

Check your splip yoke in your driveshaft if it is dry it will make a loud clunk:D

I agree with 88vert.

I have a 91 XLT. It also made a clunck when stopping hard and comming to rest and going over speed bumps or whatever.

I pulled the driveline, cleaned and regreased the slip yoke. Problem solved. It only took about 1/2 an hour.

I used a mixture of anti sieze and moly grease and it lasted about a year and a half, make sure you fasten the driveshaft boot real good too I used cable ties for mine:D
