"91 Eddie Bauer
I have a 91 Eddie Bauer. It was overheating slightly and my mechanic replaced the clutch fan. Problem is it whines REALLY loud now when accelerating. It finally quits, but does it again after shifting out of park. My mechanic says he put a heavy duty fan in and that the sound is normal. It doesn't seem normal to me. Any advice?

Do you know if its a Flex-a-lite fan??? Because if it is... Then Yes... it will make noise... I had it on my cougar before I switched to an electric fan......Almost sounds like a supercharger...

The OEM fan clutch is quiet.

the Heavy Duty Fan clutch can make the fan loud.
After I changed our fan clutch to a heavy duty one our truck sounds like a late 80's chevy when it starts (fan noise sounds like a GM truck).

It is normal if you have a heavy duty clutch in there. They can/will help if it gets hot out there. I don't want to worry about not enough air flow when wheeling (or stop/go traffic). Especially since it has already reached 110F down here in Southern Az.

BTW.. the stock fan (the one from the supercooling kit, 10 or 11 blades) with a Heavy Duty Fan clutch will flow much more air than a electric fan will. If you want the cooling power, stick with the Heavy Duty clutch and your stock fan..
