I have a '97 XLT with the 4.0L SOHC engine. I am getting an intermittent CEL with a P0153 code. The dealer performed a reflash of the PCM, cleaned the throttle body and flushed the injectors to try to fix this. Left the dealer and 10 miles later - the CEL back on with the same code. I am sure there are no vacuum leaks, engine runs good, starts fine, no driveability issues. I have a scanner and understand how the fuel injection system works. Fuel trims are no more than 5% so I think that's ok. I need to get in I/M tested soon and I cannot get the EVAP Monitor to complete.

Question is - does this code just mean the O2 sensor is getting lazy and needs to be replaced?? And, Will the EVAP monitor pass with this code set??

Thanks for any help!!!!

Yes it means o2 sensor is getting lazy, replace it and you will be good.

P0153 and P1131 FIX

I replaced both up-stream O2 sensors, have driven the Explorer 250 miles and no codes and no pending codes. Now, just have to drive it to get through the 'drive cycles' :(

Thanks for help!!!! :D
