Cold Air Intake for 91-94 Explorers

o you guys are pretty much saying that the better idea would be to hook up the HELP! rlbow and a mini filter for the oil brether..and not connect it back into the intake tubing..because it being connected can probably account for a builup on the TB and the "plenum"..other than that theres not too much difference?..but yes..the elbow and air breather is a good idea..rather then hooking it into the new tubing?...
i got the intake in the mail today..so i want to know what to do to do it right the first time..

btw..im with pughman..dont sh*t on someone elses rig no matter what man..especially if it has nothing to do with the thread whatsoever..are you on this forum to do just that?..if so..leave it outta this thread cuase the adults are trying to accomplish somehting..and have big boy talk...

 ;)

So from what I am gathering, a PVC intake will not clear the hood on a stock explorer? and by that I mean no body lift.

Hey now! Lol! I'm no adult, well.. i will be in 2 years... but I still know that that kind of talk has no place in this forum. I seem to remember this posted earlier (scroll down) ;) I just thought I'd speak for all the MATURE minors out here. :D

If I remember right, Pughman NEVER asked for your opinion on his hood. I happen to think it looks pretty good on an explorer. Maybe you should grow up and learn to keep your thoughts to yourself. Oh, and learn how to spell, buddy. It's "Ridiculous" for your information. ;) I'm not trying to sound too harsh, I just believe comments like that have no place in a forum like this one.

Well I have tried to make it work with the 3" PVC with bone stock suspension and I can't get it. I even tried re-using the center section that is molded flat but the end connectors are still to tall. I really cant tell if removing the foam heatshield would make it work either. It only seems to be about half an inch thick. Did anyone try this idea yet? I want to make this work so bad. On a side note, what kit are you guys buying on ebay?

I have another question then. Is there any real difference between the stock tube and an aftermarket or PVC tube?

First off, suspension has nothing to do with fitting an aftermarket intake. If you do a body lift, that will make it able to clear the intake. Suspension lifts and body lifts are two very different things. As far as the ebay thing goes, just search it. You will find it ;)

On my explorer I run a 3" PVC intake (maf sensor to throttle body) tube. It is much larger and smoother inside than the stock flat ribbed one. Alone, it will not be a huge power increase, but when used with an open element filter, larger maf, larger throttle body, etc. it can be very beneficial to your engine's performance. :D

thats the one i got (posted by still kicken.. there are two wires..with little sensors on the end (in the stock air box)..and there is nothing int he directions about them..and i dont know what to do with them..slpoder seems to run fine without them..but im wondering if its doing anythin gbad..like affecting my mixtures or anything..anybody have any input on this? what'd yall do..

Those aren't wires they are vacuum lines. The go to a Bi-metal sensor I guess it's called. My truck wouldn't run unless I plugged them up with a bolt.

i just ran one into the other....

Thanks for the website stillkicken. I think I may just order it and be done with it. I am wondering about the two vacuum lines on the back of the box too. Can anyone else give us input?

As for the 2 vacuum lines. At first I forgot to plug them, and it ran fine. But I had e-mailed ASMI before I bought the package and they had told me to plug them with a bolt, which I did after I relized I forgot. Still ran the same. I do notice that I have a lil more power. Don't know about the MPG yet as I haven't gone through a tank yet.

i installed the bomz racing intake kit..can i loose performance? it sounds great..and thers some better throttle response..but i dont think im getting good accleration..those 2 vaccum lines re dangling..plug them up with bolts? do do i do so
? wut kinda bolts?..will this help my problem..can anybody diagnose?

The vacuum hoses on the stock air box that you remove are no longer needed and rendered useless when using an open cone filter. These vacuum lines attach to a bimetal sensor in the stock air box and will open/close a vane in the lower intake (heat riser tube) near the bumper. The purpose of this system is to warm the car up a few minutes faster in cold weather by preventing cold outside air from entering the stock air box. Obviously if your not using the stock air box this system no longer needs to be maintained (so plug the vacuum line and your good to go..

BTW: Vacuum is created by the Pistons during the intake cycle and used to activate/run various components. But if you have too many vacuum leaks (old cracked vacuum hoses or lines disconnected and not plugged) then overall vacuum is reduced and components relying on vacuum will perform poorly or not work at all.

Good call! I was pretty sure that was the name of that sensor. ;) I found it in my Chilton's manual when I was bored one day. As for the lines... I plugged them too. :D

I also have the bomz kit. Just use some bolts that fit snugly that you have laying around.

ok..the bolts..they just screw into the line?..no way yall remember wat size or anything?..and what i mgettin grom this is..the sensors dont really do a whole lot..specially without the stock airbox..the heating the engine up thing i dont get..do you mean that huge induction tube that i also removed..and left dangling..i forgot about that..but it takes in air into the bottom of the engine..and it would essentially be warmer air..this would make sense..for wariming it up in winter..what shuld i do with that thing?..my buddies got a jeep cj..he said most jeep guys yank that thing off dudnt do a whole lot..but wont that suck in crap into my engine?..could i just put some kind of filter over it? what should i do bout the vent tube..and then those 2 sensors...

1. plug up the 2 vaccum sensor lines with bolts (useless) ???
2. fab some kind of filter for the "hot air" induction that was on the stock airbox and runs to bottom of engine case ???
3. will any of these solve my problem with the intake..i belive im gettin poor acceleration..at best it hasnt decreased..???

Any bolt close to the inner diameter of the vacuum line will work. You need to plug up all vacuum lines otherwise you're creating a large leak in the vacuum system (performance and fuel ecomony will suffer). Many members remove the entire stock air box and heat riser tube, and store the components together in case they are needed for local emission testing/laws. The purpose of the heat riser system is to give you slightly better ecomony for 5-10 minutes while the engine reaches it normal operation temperature.
