The weather stated to get much colder around here and my X seams to start rougher. Recently, I had to start my X when the outside temperature was about -5F:can: . I turn the key like usual and there was a click (similar to the one when you battery is dead:thumbdwn: ) before starting like normal. Therefore, I think my battery CCA are getting a bit low and to be sure that I want to replace the battery. I want to do it my self but I have been reading information about batteries and it says that you should recharge the battery before installing it:feedback: . Now I don’t know if I should do it myself or get a mechanic to do it for me because I don’t have a charger.
Can I purchase a battery that is already charge?
Alternatively, should I go to a mechanic and have it replace there?

If you have a volt meter you can test it before you install it. As long as it has around 12 or 13 volts your good. Usually batteries have a good enough charge. Sometimes if they are below voltage it will cause your alternator to work harder and then possibly burn up.

But you shouldnt have any problems. Maybe the auto store you buy it from will test the voltage for you.

First thing I would do is check the connections on the battery, make sure they're clean and tight. A loose connection would cause that problem as well.

Every battery I've ever bought has a nearly full charge in it, but since you're up north, you may want to keep it warm, then start the vehicle as soon as you get it installed, and take it for a drive to charge it.

Maybe it would be a good idea to install a block heater which you could plug in for the night. A good battery to get is an Optima. It seems like they start in all kind of weather. How old is your present battery, and what brand is it?
