I'd probably be up for a Sat. run, Sundays are out for me due to Church  and football

I figured as much... I think it'd be fun to take Emily wheelin'

Especially if we can make it an Aspen colors run!

So, Saturday October 13th... anyone else available/up for it?

Here are the reports from Traildamage.com

Carnage (Boulder)

Low-End Rating:3
High-End Rating:8
This is a rare trail, because stock vehicles can run alongside extreme rigs and both can have a good time. Please make sure that the only time you are out of the river bed before Five Points is between The Squeeze and The Slab.

Slaughterhouse Gulch

Low-End Rating:3
High-End Rating:5
This is a great trail if you're looking for a lot of flex. The "whoopdeedoos" (dirt moguls that twist your suspension) found through the entire trail are challenging to a stock vehicle, especially if your sway bar is not disconnected.

Doug,

I would also be up for trying some of the trails you were telling me about within an hour or so of Denver. Seriously, lets make wheelin' on Sat 10/13 happen!

I was up there late Saturday afternoon/night
Slaughterhouse loop is do-able in a stock rig, there are some spots you can get in trouble

Might be going back up there this weekend to test my new hubs

Jaime, I'll run it with you this weekend

EDIT:
We definately should be able to run what this Cherokee can run. There's pics of him on the Slaughterhouse description.

Not to post pad, but here's some comparisons. We definately can run either Carnage or Slaughterhouse.

Here's the TrailDamage.com reports of a sample of the trails we ran around Ouray and no one had any problems.

Black Bear Pass
Low-End Rating:5
High-End Rating:5

California Gulch
Low-End Rating:2
High-End Rating:2

Corkscrew Gulch
Low-End Rating:2
High-End Rating:5

Imogene Pass
Low-End Rating:2
High-End Rating:3

Stony Pass
Low-End Rating:2
High-End Rating:2

Yankee Boy Basin
Low-End Rating:3
High-End Rating:4

Ha! I've been thumbing through my trail guides... my truck is definately getting dirty somewhere this weekend!

Damn dude... you should quote a little! :D

Although it probably isn't a worry with these two trails; just remember that most of their ratings are applicable to TJ's and the like, not to mention ever changing trails from the weather (I did chinaman gulch 2 years ago at a 5 low and 8 high rating by them and it sounds like weather has changed it quite a bit for the worse and better  ;) ). I could see the 5 for a wrangler but not too 110+" wheelbase friendly. I got lucky and had stellar spotters and went with the rmftc.com guys that didn't mind spending a lot of time shoe-horning me through the rock pile, mini stairs and the chutes... for a body damage free trip :salute: .

Traildamage 5

Needless to say to say at the time and with my skill then, it was a nerve wracking but fun day :D :p:

ah man, i'd totally be down for that saturday but i have an old coworker visiting me that weekend AND my mom and aunt are in town for some wedding.

hmmmm

i'll have to figure this one out. i'd love to go out again...........

I've also been comparing some of the traildamage.com trail ratings to Wells' book (of course Slaughterhouse and Carnage aren't in there)[/QUOTE]

 Yeah there are some really tight spots with turns between boulders on Chinaman's.... like I mentioned I had some phenominal spotters ( I got my sliders on right after that trip and they would have helped me tremendously in those tight areas to pitch off rocks and swing the bed around :D ).

Wakesk8er; see if you have another weekend free and we can see about doing another day run then. By the way, welcome to CO :)

oh, i'm sure i'll have another weekend free sometime.... and thanks for the welcome, i like it here a lot so far :-)

Jenni, sorry about the belated welcome although I'm glad you're happy out here. Most of us are "Transplants" which is cool, but you can't beat the trails or proximity to wheelin'. This is your thread, so you call the shots ;) . As I mentioned earlier, Sundays are usually out for me for church and football but call a date that you're free (before the weather gets crappy :D ) and we'll see about wheelin something you like or have wanted to do.

if you run carnage boulder and not left hand you can expect some body damage without sliders

As long as I can run 'em without fubar'ing my rockers/side steps you know I'm down

you mean like this:

vbpgimage.php

vbpgimage.php

carnage boulder 3/10/07

I would be good to have sliders. mine are ready to install but now that I have a job where I have no access to a welder. They are leaning by my back door. I need to run over to Cheyenne and have a friends shop weld them on for me. I did get the brackets from him anyways.

I was actually thinking of running Johnny park road by Lyons tomorrow but I may just head up to the snowies and goof around.

Tim

ah, this isn't my thread, but the lovely shared thread of all the awesome people of CO... HAHA ok that sounded pretty lame. but really, it's cool just to see some folks from around the area are down to do whatever. i'm not going anywhere for awhile (well at least 2 years since my sign on bonus and such is dependent on that lol) so we'll find time to all hook up sometime for sure.

and brett, i'm hoping i can get up there tomorrow for the festivities.... supposed to be a great weekend weather-wise.

Wheelin' with Doug is fun. If nothing else you can learn the wheelbase of every vehicle on the road :p:

:D :D Funny dude. I just like to know how long the competition is :p: Wheelbase is more of a bit$h than I ever gave credit to, so I like to know the WB of others that are runnin' similar trails to the ones I want to. My front and rear overhangs aren't a worry, but I like to know how wheelbase-friendly a trail is (I had to specific pics in Ouray of the 'short wheelbase recommended' signs just for private enjoyment! .

Tim, that's good for everyone to know about carnage. Thanks. Good pics by the way, I just wish they were LARGER  I'm gettin' old, and thus more blind ;) .

Yep, Colorado is great...except for the yuppies and hippies...lol Spent 10 day pulling fish from the Puter rive up in Rustic just outside of FC this summer.

OK well it sounds like there are at least 2-4 trucks from the rmftc.com board that would be down for running slaughterhouse on the 13th. A bunch of them did slaughter. the same weekend that some of us were in Moab with EF (this board). Since it seems to be on the easier side of a moderate trail... having several vehicles to run it shouldn't be too bad of a thing.
