mrboyle,
What kind of bad gas milage is your dad getting? What have you done so far. What gear ratio does he have? what tire size does he run? Is it a OHV or a SOHC? Most chip manufactures say that for best results you should go with premium gas, but you can get it for regular gas. If you are already getting bad gas milage, do you really want a supercharger? There are at least 3 or 4 companies that make superchargers. Paxton,Vortex, Eaton or BBK. The Eaton or BBK is a roots supercharer and probably the best for overall performance (JMO). The other really don't start working until you get up to 3Krpm.

Personally I don't thikn he is getting that bad of mileage (16town/20hwy). I think he is just mad because it doesent get as good of mileage as his old '92 (19town/24hwy). The only mod is a K&N drop-in filter. The rest is stock XLT w/4.0L OHV/auto,3.73:1 and 225/75x15 Tires. We are planning to install a 3 chamber Flowmaster single in dual out with custom rear pipes (2" pipe). We will also upgrade to 235's when the tires need replaced.
As for the supercharger I can find them listed for the early '91-'94 4.0L and the late '95-up with the 5.0L, but not for the 4.0L. As mileage is concerned a supercharger can increase mileage as long as you keep your foot out of it! The '94 Chevy (yea I know) I installed one on for a friend improved mileage by almost 3mpg on the hwy.

The performance and gas mileage on my dad's '96 Explorer sucks! Anyone have experience with any of the available aftremarket chips? Do they improve mileage any? Also, is there a supercharger available for the '96 w/ a 4.0L?
