FI to carb?

i'm not to sure about your 4.0 but the 2.8 and 2.9 are the same motor and we have switched several. the 2.9 used fuel injection and the 2.8 was carbed. it only meant changing the complete intake over to carb. i doubt if the 4.0 is any differant. just a matter of finding the same 4.0 with a carburator and intake. good luck.

Just curious, but why would you want to do the switch?

Thanks ...

the 4.0L is different, you cannot just bolt a 2.8L intake with carb to an OHV 4.0L and make it run

However IT HAS BEEN DONE
the 4.0L will also need a distributor, which is a whole other battle.

This will get real custom and real expensive real fast.

but Jamie, the old 4.0's still have the whole for the dist. if I remember right. Me and my dad we're talking about this same idea, bolting a 2.8 intake on a 4.0. Not sure it would just bolt on though. We came up with the idea so we could do a 4.0 propane truck:D

yes they sure do have the hole, BUT the oil pump drive rotates in the opposite direction from the old 2.9L and 2.8L

This has been discussed so many times, especially on the old 2.9L forums

It CAN and HAS been done, but it is not easy or cheap.

Offenhouser made some performance intakes for the cologne V6 engines and the Cossworths overseas made wicked power ( can you say 350HP 2.9L) with these setups...good luck getting your hands on that stuff here...
