console to column shift

I'm used to column shifters in my 2nd gen, but im looking at a 4th gen to have alongside my 2nd. I believe the shifter is on the console? If so, can i convert it to column? Also, is there any preventative maintained entrance to do of i purchase one? (aside from fluids) i'm looking at the 4.6 v8. Thanks!

Definitely buy a 4.6L model. The drive train is much more reliable. Also, pass on anything with excessive rust on, in or under the vehicle. I have not heard of anyone converting a 4th gen to column shifting. I recommend changing all the fluids and check suspension, braking components etc.
