'97 Sport w/ control trac
First let me say that i am so happy to have found this forum, i have a stock 97 control trac sport w/ 5spd and absolutly love it, i cant say enough about how well it runs, it will go anywhere i want to put it and get out.

My 4wd low is not engaging, when i flip the switch to low it just clicks a few times then gives up. the auto and 4wd high work perfect we have had lots of snow the last few weeks and it has had plenty of use.

This summer i was getting the flashing 4wd lights and replaced the TC shift motor which did not fix the problem so i scanned the truck and it posted a speed sensor code so i replaced it and the problem was solved, i wish i would have seen this forum before because aparently they just need to be cleaned if theres an issue, would have saved me 70 bucks.

what can be causeing the no 4wd low? it hasnt been working since the above issue. could it be the switch on the dash? how can i check it?

Not to sound nitpicky, but just to eliminate ideas- are you putting the truck in Neutral when switching to 4 Low?

yeah i have had it in neutral w/ and w/o the clutch pushed in, and tried moving the truck forward and backward a little bit and nothing happens

If your hearing the relays going, it's not the switch. Most likely your shift motor needs repair. The clutch pack in the case is good if 4wh is working.

There is a chance it is something internal. The shift fork has a plastic part that breaks, or the helical ramp pin breaks. Either of those two will stop the case from shifting into low range.

I would start with the shift motor first, you can analyze it your self for free. There is a sticky on it in the stock 95-01 sub forum.

abs light is off, and i was mistaken about hearing the clicking in the switch, it does not click when i switch to low

You must be stopped, with your foot on the brakes, and the clutch depressed, then flip the switch. Start there and report back.
