I was wondering I saw in the initial post that the 1997 to 2001 control trac AWD transfer cases all operate the same and he can use any one of them. I have been looking for a new transfer case for my 1997 explorer with control trac AWD and Ford and transmission places tell me I have to use one from a 1995 to 1997 because of the speed sensor I have not seen this speed sensor could it be they are wrong? Or maybe it didnt appy to what you were doing with your lift and conversion and such.

You do need one from a 95-97 because they have the VSS sensor port on the case housing. I'll see if I can round up a pic.

Transfer Case

Great that means my explorer did not have the origional t-case when i got it that owuld explain all the t-case problems i am having i get one it bolts up and works for a bit then dies and makes a horrible grinding noise when i go over 60 and decellerate. always thought it was the case was worn and i was unlucky.

and it's not AWD, it's 4WD

The VSS sensor operates your speedometer and I believe the rear ABS but don't quote me on that. It would not anything to do with a failing t-case.

no the ABS sensor is seperate
