Is it possible to modify a control trac 4wd (96) to be a full time REAL 4wd?

Control Trac is not All Wheel Drive, and not real 4wd, but an on-demand type. Unfortunately, it only comes on when IT demands it and not me ;(

My contral trac has a switch to put it into 4HI and 4LO. The auto setting is 2wd, when the computer senses slipping in the rear it licks into 4wd.

Yours is 4WD Auto, 4-Hi, and 4-lo. But the '95-'96 models are 2WD, 4WD Auto, and 4WD Low so we don't have the option to lock the differential unless you're in 4-low. I'm also interested at making 4-hi. Anyone?

i am also trying to figure it out..but from what i have gatered is im going to have to swap the t-case for one out of a (01-up) explorer sport/sport trac or ranger to get 4x4 high

Maybe there's a Ford mechanic online that has dug into the transfer case for the 96. I would guess there might be a way if you simulate the control lines to it and the engage mechanism on the axle.

However, I would guess there's also something "fancy" about it too, which is why they thought this was such a special way to go on this system - like the on demand application of power and all.

I dont' have any docs on it either. Perhaps if we pool our experiences and/or if someone has experience tearing one down....

hmm that would be a nice mod.. there was another thread on here that dealt with the 97' and up t/cs that achieved something similiar to this by putting a switch in somewhere, could someone provide similar pic's for 95'-96? would this even work? would be nice just to have a choice between "4wd" and "4wd auto" :P
