I have a 91 Explorer manual trans I am looking at converting to EEC-V for ease of tuning. I am going to be supercharging it so need a way to tune it.

I am going to be using a computer and wiring harness from a 96 Explorer so it will not have pats. I found a manual trans computer for a 96 on ebay for a good deal so I will probably pick it up.

Anybody ever done this swap so I know what Im getting into? Is the dash wiring the same between both models or what will I have to do there?

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

OBD-II port?

Does the wiring harness include the OBD-II port connector?

I believe there are some minor sensor connection differences that require a wiring change. There was a post about them within the last year.

Do you have a 96 wiring diagram and a 91 wiring diagram? If you need a 96 wiring diagram PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. Sorry, but I don't have one for the 91.

I havent got a wiring harness yet. I was going to go to the junkyard and pull that out of one my self to make sure I get everything I need including the obd-ii port.

A little wiring change is no biggie looking at see what all the differences are. I have a manual that has both the diagrams in it I believe but I will definitely take the diagram you have. My email address is FoxRcnInc@Yahoo.com Thanks.

If you find that thread you were talking about let me know.

Bumping this old thread as I'm plotting the same thing and wondering if this one ^^^ ever actually happened.

Were you swapping a 4.0 into a XT4TI?

I converted my 1988 bronco ii from a 93 explorer 4.0
Setup to a 97 explorer 5.0 setup back in 2005. My bronco ii is now obd2 pcm with a obd2 port under the dash. I kept the 1988 dash and dash pot but added aftermarket gauges for tach, oil pressure, water temp, voltage and speedo
I used a 96 mustang floor shifter which gives me the od cancel button and I grafted in a light for the od cancel and brights indicator into the factory 88 dashpot
I also added a fuel tank presssure sensor to the factory bronco tank… my 88 believes 100% that it is a 97.5 mercury Mountaineer v8 obd2 eec-v pcm is happy
Still drive it today

No, converting the Cologne 2.9 in a Scorpio to run EDIS-6 from a 4.0.

Awesome! In many ways, I'd be making the same journey. I'm basically running a '92 Ranger 4.0 OHV right now, the PCM just happens to be running it on a 2.9 engine (shhh, don't tell it!). My next step up would be to a circa '96 harness and PCM, still running the same 2.9. Bonus points for me... I'm running a 5-speed manual, so I get to ignore all the stuff about Automatic transmission control.

I need to go read your thread more thoroughly...

Thanks very much for replying!

Any other plans for the engine?
For now, no. This is my wife's car, and reliability is what drove this project after I got a "It won't start" call last year. It turned out to be a failed coil. Could have just as easily been a failed PIP or TFI. Well, none of those three exist now!

Very cool project! Obd2 pcm far superior to that 92 unit
96-97 ranger or explorer 5 speed and harness stripped down would work fantastic
That’s a lot like my bronco
It was a 2.9 and 5 speed
Then I converted it to 4.0 and 5 speed using power dist box and pcm engine harness from a 93 explorer. Then I went to 4.0 and auto because auto is better for 4 wheeling… then many years later (and 3ea a4ld) I finally went v8 instead of supercharging a 4.0

I still have the 93 4.0 style power distribution
Box and engine bay wiring

Thanks. I'm pretty much still running the original harness from the Scorpio as I didn't want to get into the whole power distribution side of things. All I did was add/move circuits on the PCM side.

For the EEC-V swap, I would approach it a little differently and start with the EEC-V PCM harness, patching into existing power distribution as needed.

So it sounds like generally '98+ is going to have PATS, and that's why I want 96/7, yes? For the harness, do I have a wider year-range I can pick from, or should I just try to stick with '96/7?

BTW, sent you an e-mail using the address you posted in this thread from 2005. So not sure if that's still active.
