How do I figure out what is the inlet hose to the heater core, and which is the outlet?

AFAIK, the "core" itself doesn't really care. If your trying to figure out which hose is being used to supply the coolant to the core and which is the return, look at the other end of the hoses.

In general, the coolant goes from the upper intake, into the heater and then back to the motor.

It does matter because the location of the other cooles inside it (transmission and A/C).
As a rule of thumb, water pump PUSHES water into the engine block (to prevent cavitation in the block), therefore is installed on the OUTPUT of radiator.

The heater core is installed after the output of the radiator? They must have some odd hoses then. I've always seen the heater core on its own hose from the upper intake.

Of course, anything is possible. The radiator hose on our 06 mustang sure ain't the normal single hose.

Even then, the heater core is independent of the rest of the coolers and is in the dash..

Ok, let's see if I have got this right. The hose that comes off the front of the intake by the thermostat would be the inlet hose to the heater core, the hose that lead down to the water pump would be the outlet hose? If that's the case my outlet hose has lots of heat in it and my inlet has very little. That would indicate a blockage between the intake and the core correct? The outlet would be hot because the coolant would be back flowing in the void off the water pump. That's just my theory. Looking for opinions before I tear it all apart this weekend. Need heat soon its getn cold at night. Almost time to build our winter igloos here in the great white north :D
