I have a 2002 Ford Explorer, E.B V-8 and I have a coolant leak on the passenger side under the hood down low at the rear of the engine. Its hard to see exactly where its coming from but it may be coming from the hose that is wrapped in the aluminum foil like stuff. I can't tell for sure. What all could be leaking coolant in that area ? It was really hot (coolant) and it was spraying out steam but I could not see the source.

Any help on a possible cause and how to repair would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

There are a few things back there that could be leaking.
There is a vacuum valve, kind of looks like a black hat, it controls coolant flow thru heater core, which can also leak, out the weep hole below it. There are 2 coolant lines that run up from rear of intake manifold to the crossover tube above passenger side valve cover.
Have soomeone rev engine while you look, it should spray if it's a good leak.

I finally found the source of the leak. It was the hose that is wrapped in the heat resistance material on the passenger side of the vehicle. It was a small pin hole leak in the hose. Apparently the hose is wrapped in the heat resistant material as a sleeve of sorts and is held away from the exhause manifold by something (mine was missing so I am guessing on this). This let the hose come too close to the manifold and a combination of high heat and it also rubbed against the manifold and it caused a small pin hole leak when I found it. I did not buy a new hose assembly, I cut out a 2 inch section of the hose and installed a connector (plastic) with hose clamps and re-installed the sleeve and used nylon ties to hold the hose away from the exhaust manifold. The hose was in great shape except for the small damaged area. I'll just have to keep checking on the ties to make sure they don't break and let the hose get back over against the exhaust manifold again.
