Changed the thermostat, thought it wasn't getting up to temp. Filled with water, start engine and run till heated up. as the engine runs, I add water to fill radiator. in a few minutes water comes gushing out. fill again. then again gusher and again and again. shutdown. while cooling both upper and lower hose flatten out like pancakes. I've checked the path to the overflow and everything seems clear. maybe the cap on the later, but the gushing thing has me baffled

YOUR CAP IS GOD place too start i would remove radiator and check it see if its not plugged up also. or t-stat in backwards both cause your problem

Yeah, the thermostat backwards occured to me also, but I put it in the way it came out (pointed side out) with the little doodad, that I assume is the vent, at the top. It was a 198deg from Autozone. The cap is probably the cause of the flatened hoses, but is of coarse removed during the surging. I started this when I saw the coolant was very brown. Also my fan was severely cracked and also I didn't think the engine was getting up to temp, like not even up to the N. So I changed the fan, lower hose, belt, tstat and jsut ran the hose into any place that was open to get the brown coolant the best I could without being to aggresive. I didn't want to blow anything out. Maybe I got a bad stat. But I think it does open or it would over heat. It seems to stay between R and M, but does fluctuate sometime. I guess I gotta take it back out.
