Crash Bang Noise

I have a '96 Sport 4x4 and when I cruise at about 90 or more (rare but it happens) after a minute or two I get a loud crash bang noise and it feels like I ran over something. I've looked and seen nothing in the road, and it happens only at that speed and only after a period of time. If i just happen to get up to 90 and drop right back down it doesn't happen. Any one have any ideas?

Your auto 4wd is kicking in at the wrong time. there is a fix and a bandade. I like the bandade.
Find the wires that go the transfer case under the driver seat. You will need to do a search for which one. but you cut one, (I can't remember the color) and you wire a switch in series. when you don't want 4wd, turn the switch off, when you do, turn it on. It's easy.

Search for "brown wire mod". That's the wire you want to put a switch on.

First off he's got a 96, which should have 2WD, 4 Auto and 4 Low. That and the computer is supposed to disable 4wd above 45 mph.

That's why he puts a switch on there. Because the computer is not disabling 4x4. he turns it off when he doesn't want it.

I guess the only other idea would be to not go 90! It's cheaper when you get the ticket to keep it at 85 or under.....

I've already had my day in the sun. Colorado State Patrol were not thrilled.

Auto4x4 isn't the problem. Are you doing 90 in 4wd? As mentioned previously he has 2wd. The brown wire mod won't do anything in 2wd.

Yes, that would be in 2wd. I have Goodyear RT\S tires (which pretty much suck unless it good n dry, so I don't run in 4wd at anywhere near those speeds. I very rarely get it up to 90, but it does happen, and I'd like to correct any problem before it migrates to a lower speed. Thanks again to those that have answered.
