2014 Ford Explorer Base
Just bought a 2014 base. It has. A loud creaking coming from the rear end. Service department says it’s a bushing but can’t replace just the bushing, have to replace the complete assembly. Is this true? They have tried lubricant and Ir doesn’t help.

There are some youtube video for the Taurus I believe that show a DIY fix for something similiar. Its really pricey otherwise.

Maybe search for 2011 taurus rear suspension or rear bushing. Try searching for 2011 explorer as well.

Welcome to the Forum.
Did they give you the part number by any chance?

I have a 2015 and got a letter from Ford to have this fixed. About 1 hour. no noise now.

To buy yourself time, Get a jack and lift the back end from your to hitch(or bumper carefully) so you take the strain off the bushings/suspension get some fluid film and spray all your links, joint, leafs ect. You can do one at a time to pin point exactly what it is or spray it all to quite it. In my 96 i had a noise from the rear that sounded terrible as if it was going to fall apart, turned out just the leafs where dry and the plastic slider/spacer was gone and was all that was making my x sound like it was going to xplod.

If I am not mistaken fluid film can cause harm to some rubber (non oil resistant per the packaging) by causing it to swell. Silicone does not. FF is good to prevent rust bit I'd be careful spraying everywhere which it does state on the can.

I have already had it in to the Ford dealer to have the recall done. Toe link, correct? Still creaking.

Correct, it can, but I have yet to see it do any harm to any rubber other than like the rubber around a gear shift or lever. I tested a lot of different rubbers even the boots on axles and ball joints. Also do not use on compression washers or any type of friction fitting. I wouldn't post information with a risk of hurting a member truck knowingly. Or unless otherwise stated. However I should have made it a point to mention there is a risk regard less.

I would check there work as best you can. Torque specs ect. Being a dealer doesn't mean they know what there doing. My local dealer tried to put 6.5 quarts of oil in my wife's merc while I was out of town!

Good to know. Thanks for the notation. I was afraid to spray under my car for that reason.

Most of the rubber on a vehicle won't be effected by sprays as the have to deal with the fluids from the vehicle, grease, oil, fuel, oil from the asphalt whatever may get on them from just being a vehicle. However there is still some amount of risk coating them with spray, but I have used the Fluid film on just about everything and it doesn't seem to effect most items. Hope you get this figured out, I know how mind racking a noise can be!

Generally the lubrication spray won't hurt the rubber bushings unless it's oil base... Anyway when dealing with bushes the only way to go imo is white lithium grease or spray It wont eat any rubber or poly but it will protect them from drying/cracking... White lithium can and should be used all over the car.

White lithium is good stuff as well, fluid film is wool wax and lanolin based. Lanolin is in hair conditioners and some paint waxes.

Can you recreate the sound btw? As in parked you push on driver side rear bumper and it creaks? Or is it only while driving?

Suspension issue?

Have you checked the front suspension even though it sounds like its coming from the rear?
