Hello folks,

Last week the cruise cnt'l died on my '94 Explorer - then noticed that the brake lights weren't working either. I replaced the brake light switch which repaired the brake lights, but the cruise cnt'l still didn't work. Then replaced the green module box, that didn't help. While under the dash, I noticed that a hose which comes from the vacumum module ends with a plunger switch near the brake pedal lever and is controlled by a plastic paddle on the lever. What is its function?

Anyhow, if someone could send a schematic or troubleshooting guide, I would much appreciate it. I'm stuck.

Thanks for any help here.

Fixed.....I believe

This is what I did.

I removed the vacumn plunger switch and left it dangling under the dash. Then packed my gear and headed for the rifle range. While underway, with my left hand I held the plunger in and turned on and set the cruise with my right. Guess what? It now worked!! Slowly releasing the plunger I found that once it was about 2/3rds of the way out the cruise released. Pushing it back in "resumed" the cruise. There is a plastic paddle (for lack of a better term) attached to the brake pedal lever. When the brake is in the relaxed mode the plunger should be pushed in by the plastic paddle. Apparently, when I replaced the brake light switch something caused the flimsy paddle to become displaced and therefore it did not make the plunger connection happen. It is easily adjustable though.

If anyone needs a 'green' cruise cnt'l module for testing or for purchase let me know. I paid $37.00 for it at Fireside auto wrecking. New price is $112.00. If the box solves your problem, we'll talk about price (50%?) . If it doesn't send it back.

Cheers,
Ron N.
