Cruise control help..

:scratch: hey,

i've been having problems with my cruise control, problem being that it doesnt work although the lights on the button do light up.. it started after installing a digital speedo and running the truck on cruise control for several minutes..

the digital speedo signal wire was tapped to the vss wire signal that was connected to the cruise control servo.. the vss signal wire was not cut off from the servo in any way during the process..

i also did the self-test diagnostics found on an old thread here in the forum and the result was 1 flash/passed.. the dynamic test did commence right after the static test so i know that the actuator works..

i checked all the fuses on the side panel in the cab and all the fuses under the hood.. i've checked the common problems that a css can have as far as i can search here in the forums and my cruise control still doesnt work..

could it be that its because of the digital speedo picking up the speed signal from the vss wire thats going to the cruise control servo?

all thoughts and additional diagnostic suggestions are welcome!

hmm well i have a 99 and mine doesnt work at all i got letters from ford about a recall on a part with the cruise control and something about a fire. might check into that.

didnt get that letter.. i think that only applies to explorers after my year?

yeah maybe so. thats i had to go in to get it fixed for free and i did and then they ran out of parts so ive been driving my ex for almost a year with out cruise control and i do ALOT of highway driving... sorry if i didnt help.

cruise control still wont work even though test was normal.. hmm..

new symptoms found!!!!

1. stock speedometer only works for a few minutes upon using the truck.

2. cruise control works for only a few minutes but can't hold a consistent speed. speed plays around +/-5mph and surges to increase speed.

other things/notes:

- o/d works flawlessly
- shifts are smooth and fine
- no abs light
- no codes found except low freon
- digital thermometer and compass works perfectly
- no blown fuses and all electrical components work including
high beams and the horn.

help in diagnosing this one please?
