alright y'all, who has done this?? I"m thinkin of custom building a set of leafs for my X to get more lift, more flex, and HOPEFULLY retain ride quality (although not that important).

I'm integrating a set of 4'' Rusty's Off-Road Lift Leafs from an XJ to my factory leafs to achieve this...

Doesn't anybody have any pointers or helpful tips to help me get the desired results stated above??

Thanks y'all

I don't know if you read the F150 Leaf Mod in the OffRoad Forum but I started with a stock Explorer leaf pack and essentially swapped everything (except the main leaf) for F150 leaves. I would think you could pretty much do the same thing with your XJ pack. Now my truck has a firmer ride but I gained almost 2" of lift, which is what I was looking for. In addition to the lift, I was looking to support the main leaf better than the stock #2 leaf did. The #2 F150 leaf did this, as it's longer. Unfortunately, I think you're going to have to experiment a little to see what works best.

Did you gain any flex at all?

Does anybody else have any input?

I never took my truck off road in it's stock configuration, so I cannot answer your flex question. If you look at GJarrett's classifications of Explorers for this year's Moab run, I'll have a 'super stock' when I'm finished with my mods. I get the impression that you're truck will be closer to 'Big Dawg' than mine. I'll be very happy with being able to run trails rated 2 or 3 (Colorado scale) when I'm done.

And, I'm surprised you're not getting more feedback.

Dave.

There are lots of options, once you have a few sets of leafs sitting in front of you and you cut the centering pins, the sky is the limit!
Personally i like a SOFT spring for off road, well softer than stock Explorer springs with add a leafs :)

There are basically two custom leaf pack projects on this site, one is known as "the Zimmerman mod" and the other is as stated above, using the F-150 pack.

THe Zimmerman version uses the main from a Ranger pack I believe with the eyes cut off and its added to the Explorer pack.

But I really am just trying to point you in the right direction.

Thanks 410 and Bronco638.... I've read up on the Zimmerman Mod, but all I have to use are these XJ lift spring packs (B/c they're free), so I'm tryin to use them.... I'm just hoping that since they're 4" lift springs, that I don't get that much lift outof them when I rebuild them.
