I was wondering...

I have a 1995 XLT 4x4 with the 4.0 V-6 and 135K miles on the stock engine/drivetrain/exhaust system.

Would adding a Flowmaster or Magnaflow 1-inlet, 1 outlet muffler give some sound to the exhaust note? I was thinking of running it out in the same place as the stock pipe, with a 3" diameter tip that is about 10 inches long. Would I get ANY different sound than the stock muffler? Would it be too loud?

The reason I ask is that I already have a Class 3 receiver hitch on this beast and by looking underneath, theres not much room for duals run out straight under the bumper, like I have on my 91 Ranger. Besides, I did this set-up on my Ranger, but a few years afterwards, I ran into problems of the rubber hangers getting loose and the pipes hitting on the tire carrier and one of the shocks. The Flowmaster 40 with 1-inlet/2outlets and the 2 pipes run under the rear bumper does sound awesome on the Ranger, though.

Looking under the rear of our Explorer, there does not seem to be as much room as there was on the Ranger and with the larger spare tire and receiver on the Ex, the room is real tight. I want to be able to GET TO the spare some day too!

Also, the one pipe is MUCH cheaper from my shop and the guy has his reservations about making everything clear the suspension, spare, hitch, etc on the Ex as it is...I don't want to push it.

So...would this give me any different sound to the vehicle at all or is it not worth it?

Thanks!

PS-I am not afraid of a nice, low rumble and am actually hoping it has some of this sound to it.
